Description

There May Queen is an old-fashioned butter lettuce variety, highly valued for its early maturity and mild flavor. It forms small, tightly packed heads with tender, smooth, light green leaves with slight pinkish hues.

It grows easily in moist, well-drained soil and offers magnificent spring harvests. Perfect for gardeners looking to enjoy their first salads early in the season!

🌿 A melting and tasty salad

With a very tender texture and a delicately sweet taste, the Reine de Mai can be enjoyed in simple salads, accompanied by fresh herbs, or to create light and refreshing spring mixes.

💡 Tips for successful sowing

  1. Sowing under cover : from January to March.
  2. Sowing in open ground : as soon as the soil has dried out, in March-April.
  3. Rise : in 7 to 10 days.
  4. Spacing : 20 to 25 cm between each plant.
  5. Tip : prefer light sowing because lettuce needs light to germinate.

🧑‍🌾 Harvesting and growing tips

Harvesting begins approximately 6 to 8 weeks after sowing, from April to June. Pick as needed to ensure tender leaves.

Organic tip : Natural mulch preserves soil moisture and reduces water stress. Combine your lettuce with radishes for a simultaneous and optimal harvest.

Bonus : In aquaponics, the May Queen is particularly suitable for growing on floating rafts thanks to its rapid growth and moderate nutritional requirements.
