The fitting that joins two channels end to end on the same slope
The NFT 100 × 80 mm channel joiner is a straight fitting that connects two growing channels with a 100 x 80 mm profile, measured overall. It lets you build a line of 2 to 4 channels, i.e. 3.6 to 7.2 m with 1.8 m channels. It requires a continuous slope and sealing with PVC glue or silicone.
A growing channel is sold in lengths of 1.8 to 2 m, and a growing line often brings several together. This coupling joins them end to end: the two channels fit into it in a straight line, and the water passes from one to the other with no step or obstruction.
🔗 Two channels end to end
The fitting is mounted on the 100 x 80 mm profile, which you measure overall, width then height, before ordering. Allow one joint fewer than the number of channels, since a joint always goes between two pieces and never at the end of a line: 3 channels of 1.8 m need 2 and give you 5.4 m of growing length on a single slope. The two ends of the line then receive their end caps, the solid end cap at the head and the outlet cap at the foot.

The two channels connect by direct push-fit, in a straight line.
The lid
The perforated channel lid stays removable once the joint is glued.
Sealing
PVC glue fixes it permanently, while silicone leaves it removable.
The line is built up channel by channel
Order this joint at the same time as the growing channel supplied without end caps, the one you will be extending, since every channel you add needs one more joint. Ordering them together saves you having to stop the assembly midway along the line. Add the 100 × 80 mm NFT gutter supports, at the rate of 2 per 1.8 m channel, so that the joined channels stay aligned on the same slope.
🌿 Slope and flow rate
In nutrient film technique, the water does not fill the channel. It runs in a thin film along the bottom, and a slope of about 1 cm per metre is enough to make it flow along the whole length, at a flow rate of 1 to 2 L per minute per channel. When your water comes from a fish pond, it carries suspended solids that mechanical filtration must remove upstream of the first channel. The spirit level sits across the joints
The slope is lost where the channels meet, because a missing support under a fitting makes the two lengths it holds sag. Lay a long spirit level across each junction, in line with the run, and wedge the support before gluing. A line corrected after gluing rarely comes apart without breakage.
🧴 The gluing and the lid
To guarantee watertightness, the joint is bonded with PVC cement, or sealed with silicone if your line may still change. The bonding applies only to the body of the two channels: the perforated lid stays removable, and you lift it between crops to brush the bottom of the profile without dismantling anything. First lay the channels out dry on their supports, run clean water along the whole line, then seal one joint at a time. A line bonded with PVC cement then forms a permanent assembly, whereas a silicone joint can be cut with a craft knife and redone.
