The eSHa 2000 fish medication is a broad-spectrum treatment for freshwater fish, which treats more than 18 bacterial and fungal conditions, from wounds to fin rot. A course lasts 3 days, with 25 drops per 100 litres on the first day, then 12 and 12. A 20 ml bottle is enough for 800 litres.

This dropper bottle contains a broad-spectrum treatment for freshwater fish. It covers more than 18 conditions, both bacterial and fungal: filamentous fungal infections, fin rot, ulcers and wounds, gill disease, dropsy, mouth fungus and neon tetra disease. One 20 ml bottle treats a full course in 800 litres of your tank. Most of these germs live permanently in a tank without making a healthy fish ill: they become pathogenic when transport, degraded water or an injury weakens its defences.

🧫 Where the disease shows

The skin

A wound, an ulcer or a discoloured patch appears, and a white, cottony deposit signals a fungal infection.

The fins

A frayed edge that recedes towards the base day by day is a sign of fin rot.

The gills

Breathing speeds up, the gill covers beat quickly and the fish stays beneath the filter outlet.

🩹 A 3-day course

The dose is not the same every day. For 100 litres, use 25 drops on the first day, then 12 drops on the second and 12 on the third. If your water is very soft, below 4 °dGH, the whole course is doubled. As a preventive measure, after transport or the arrival of new fish, only the first day's dose is given. Measure your actual volume before counting the drops, and carry out a water analysis: it will tell you whether the disease really is the cause and not the water itself. When white spots appear alongside the wounds, the white spot treatment is given at the same time, at full dose.

Snails leave the tank before the first drop

The treatment can kill snails and algae: remove your Neritina, ramshorns and apple snails before starting, and siphon the bottom during and just after treatment to remove whatever dies. Also remove the activated carbon, resins, UV and oxidisers, which absorb the product; the filter, meanwhile, runs day and night. Finally, it is intended only for ornamental freshwater fish and excludes animals destined for consumption, so on an aquaponic system the treatment is carried out in a separate hospital tank, never in the loop that waters your crops. Supporting the fish during its recovery

Once the treatment is over, the skin and fins still have to regenerate, and this is the moment when a weakened fish is least able to cope with any lapse in water quality. The eSHa Optima tonic is then added every day to the same tank, until the fish has recovered. It supports the fish's natural defences during this recovery.

At the end of the third day, fresh activated carbon put back in the filter removes whatever is left of the product; a water change is only needed if the water was already in poor condition before the course of treatment. The bacteria in the biological filter are not destroyed by the treatment, so the filter keeps breaking down fish waste during and after it. In stubborn cases, the dose can be continued for a few more days. If you see no improvement, the cause often lies elsewhere: water carrying too much nitrite or ammonia keeps wounds from healing, so test it before extending the course.

🧴 The small and the large bottle

Both bottles contain the same solution. The 20 ml bottle carries out a complete course on 800 litres, or 8 courses on a 100-litre tank. The 180 ml one covers 7,200 litres: it suits large aquariums, multi-tank setups and breeders who treat every new arrival as a preventive measure. In both cases, shake the bottle before each use.

How many drops should I add on the first day?

Do you need to remove the activated carbon?

Are my snails and shrimp at any risk?

Snails should be removed from the tank before the treatment, because the treatment can kill them. Have a bucket filled with aquarium water ready to keep them in during the 3 days of treatment. As a precaution, take the shrimp out as well.

Also remember to siphon the substrate during and just after the treatment: a dead snail or a clump of decaying algae will raise the ammonia level just when your fish are at their most vulnerable.

Can it be given at the same time as another treatment?

Can I treat an aquaponic tank?

The stated use applies to ornamental freshwater fish and excludes animals intended for consumption. On a system where you eat the fish or the vegetables, the treatment must not be poured into the loop.

A sick ornamental fish should be moved to a hospital tank, treated there, and returned once the course is finished. This protects the biofilter and the crops, and you treat a much smaller volume.
