eSHa Optima tonic is a maintenance treatment for freshwater aquariums, based on plant extracts, trace elements and vitamins. It supports natural defences, colours and recovery after an illness. The dose is 20 drops per 100 litres each week, so a 20 ml bottle treats 2,000 litres.
This eSHa Optima dropper bottle is a maintenance tonic for freshwater aquariums, whether tropical or coldwater. It combines plant extracts, trace elements, minerals and vitamins, the kind found in tropical rivers, lakes and streams and which tap water does not provide. One 20 ml bottle treats 2,000 litres, which is 20 weeks of maintenance on a 100-litre tank on a weekly schedule.
🌿 What the bottle provides
The supplement supports your fish's natural defences against bacteria, parasites and disease. It reduces stress, strengthens bones and musculature, helps natural colours show and supports the growth of young fish. It also helps a fish recover from an illness, as well as a newly bought fish weakened by transport. Finally, by recreating water close to that of tropical rivers, it stimulates breeding activity and spawning.
📆 Two dosing plans
The standard plan is 20 drops per 100 litres every week, added near the filter outlet, preferably just after the water change. A daily plan can replace it, at 4 drops per 100 litres every day, or 1 drop per 25 litres, and it gives even better results. As 20 drops make 1 ml, the bottle holds roughly 400: in a 100-litre tank, it lasts 20 weeks on the weekly plan and about a hundred days, a little over 3 months, on the daily plan. Always base your calculation on the actual volume of water, and deduct about 10% if the tank is heavily decorated.
Supporting a course of treatment and then recovery
This tonic can be combined with all the eSHa freshwater treatments without reducing any dose: you can give it during a broad-spectrum course as well as after a course against white spot. Once the course is finished, switch to the daily plan of 4 drops per 100 litres while your fish recover, then return to the maintenance schedule you have chosen.
Remove the activated carbon before pouring
Fresh activated carbon, resins, oxidisers and the UV lamp reduce the action of the conditioner. Remove them from the filter or switch them off before each addition, and leave the filter running on its wadding and biological media, day and night.
Two situations call for a particular dose. After an illness or a treatment course, it is the daily plan that speeds recovery, and you continue it until the fish have returned to their usual behaviour. To prepare for spawning, you begin with a 20 to 25% water change, then add the weekly dose of 20 drops per 100 litres for 2 to 3 weeks, or until the fish spawn. In both cases, you carry on feeding your fish normally.
🐟 Tropical and coldwater fish
eSHa Optima suits tropical and cold-water fish alike, and it is well tolerated by plants and by the bacteria in the filter. It gives its best results with tropical fish, and in a planted tank it can be combined with eSHa Pro-Phyll fertiliser without reducing either dose. It is not for use in seawater, where eSHa Minaroll takes its place. Finally, its use is restricted to ornamental fish, which rules it out for an aquaponic system whose fish you eat.
