Sicce Syncra SDC water pump, Wi-Fi adjustable, 3,000 to 9,000 L/h
The Sicce Syncra SDC is a 24 V motor pump, submersible or installed out of the water, whose flow is adjusted from a phone using the ContrALL app.
The range has four models, adjustable from 1,000 to 9,000 L/h, for aquaponics, aquariums and ponds.
The summary
- Which model: adjustable from 1,000 to 9,000 L/h.
- How it is adjusted: over Wi-Fi, with the ContrALL app.
- What it consumes: from 6 to 95 W depending on the setting.
- Its modes: ECO, PAUSE for feeding time, temperature alerts.
24 V pump with flow adjustable via an app, for aquaponics and ponds
A conventional pump always runs at the same speed: to reduce the flow, you have to close a valve, and the motor's consumption does not fall by the same amount. The Sicce Syncra SDC works differently. Its 24 V direct-current motor genuinely changes speed, and its consumption falls with the flow. A control box, supplied with the power supply, connects it to your home Wi-Fi, and Sicce's ContrALL app lets you adjust everything from a phone, without touching the tank. The pump can be installed submerged or out of the water, in line on the circuit.
📱 What the app allows you to do
From the app, you choose the flow rate and one of the 5 preset operating modes. ECO mode runs the pump at a reduced flow rate over a 7-hour window, to save energy. PAUSE mode lowers the speed for 10 minutes, right down to a stop if you set it that way, while the fish feed: the pellets do not get swept into the filter, then the pump returns to its setting by itself. A sensor measures the water temperature, and the app alerts you if anything is wrong. The pump remains protected against rotor blockage, dry running and overheating, like the other Syncra models.
A phone and Wi-Fi
Fine adjustment is done through the ContrALL app, which requires a Wi-Fi network that reaches the unit. Check this range before installation. The unit and power supply must be kept away from water and rain: only the pump is in contact with the water.
📐 Four adjustment ranges
Choose according to the range you will need all year round, not the maximum flow rate. Take a 3,000-litre aquaponic system, with a 1,500-litre fish tank to be turned over once an hour and grow beds sitting 1 m higher: the SDC 3.0 covers that need, and leaves room to increase the flow in summer, when the fish use more oxygen. If the same beds sit on a shelf at 2 m, the SDC 6.0 still delivers around 2,300 L/h at that height. For a 10 m³ pond whose volume passes through the filter every 2 hours, with the filter sitting 1 m higher, the SDC 7.0 still delivers around 5,600 L/h. All four models are controlled with the same app. The SDC 3.0 connects via a 1" thread with 20 and 25 mm adaptors, the other three via a 1" 3/8 thread.
SDC 3.0
It can be adjusted from 1,000 to 3,000 L/h for 6 to 35 W, with an adjustable maximum head of 0.5 to 2.2 m, and serves an aquarium or a small aquaponic system.
SDC 6.0
Adjustable from 2,000 to 5,500 L/h for 10 to 40 W, it pumps up to 3.5 m and suits grow beds set high up. It is supplied to order.
SDC 7.0
From 3,000 to 7,000 L/h for 20 to 65 W, with a maximum head of 2 to 5 m, this model serves a multi-tank system or a pond.
SDC 9.0
The most powerful one can be adjusted from 4,000 to 9,000 L/h for 30 to 95 W, with 2.6 to 7 m maximum head, for a large pond or a growing tier placed high up.
An oxygen test to adjust the flow rate
The right flow rate is the lowest one that still keeps enough oxygen for your fish, and it changes with the seasons. The dissolved oxygen drop test measures the actual level from 1 to 10 mg/L: you lower the flow rate in the app, measure a few days later, and keep the most economical setting that maintains a healthy level. Make a note of the settings that suit each season, and save them in the app so you can find them again the following year.
An aquaponics pump runs 8,760 hours a year. Since the DC motor genuinely slows down when you turn the flow down, the difference shows on the bill. If the SDC 7.0 runs at 35 W instead of 65 W, the gap amounts to nearly 260 kWh over a year. The same calculation applies to your own setup: multiply the power actually set by 8,760 hours.
🌱 In aquaponics
An aquaponic system does not have the same needs in January and in July. In summer, warm water holds less oxygen and the fish eat more: you need to circulate more water. In winter, life slows down and a reduced flow rate is enough. With the SDC, this adjustment takes a few seconds, and the PAUSE mode prevents feed from being lost in the filter at each meal. The temperature sensor also alerts you if the water gets too hot during a heatwave. The guide on looking after your aquaponic system in summer explains why flow rate and oxygen matter so much in hot weather, and the one on building your aquaponic system shows where to place the pump in the circuit.
🔧 Installation and maintenance
Place the pump at the lowest point of the tank or pond, on a flat surface, and leave a few centimetres between the intake grille and the bottom so that it does not draw in sludge. You can also install it out of the water, in line on the circuit, below the water level so that the impeller stays submerged. The 3 m cable runs to the control unit, which must be kept dry, sheltered from rain and splashes, and within Wi-Fi range. Plug the power supply into a socket protected by a 30 mA residual current device. Once the pump is running, open the ContrALL app, add the pump, then set a modest starting flow rate before increasing it.
For maintenance, clean the intake grille as soon as the flow drops, and the impeller once or twice a year, with the pump unplugged, using clean water and a soft brush. Limescale deposits can be removed with diluted white vinegar, then rinse thoroughly before putting the pump back into service. While you are at it, check the condition of the seal and the nozzles, because a worn seal compromises watertightness and flow. In case of frost, take the pump out of a shallow pond and store it somewhere sheltered until spring. When restarting, check the flow in the app before leaving the pump to run on its own.
