💧 Discover absolute transparency
Is your water cloudy ? Does it have a yellowish tint ("tea color") because of your roots? Or have you just finished a course of medication?
The EHEIM KARBON this is the most reliable chemical purification solution on the market. Unlike low-grade carbons that release phosphates (algae) or dust, this one is acid-activated for total purity.
🧪 A powerful detoxifying action (adsorption)
This is not mechanical filtration, it's molecular filtration. The micropores of the charcoal trap :
- Dyes : Fish urine, wood tannins, natural yellowing.
- Chemical toxins : Tap chlorine, drug residues, heavy metals, cleaning product remnants.
- The smells : Neutralizes the smell of "mud" or earth.
📕 Instructions for use
Note that charcoal is a "temporary cleaning tool".
Facility : Rinse it thoroughly with hot water before use to remove black dust. Place it in a mesh bag (or use the "+ Mesh" version) in your filter.
Duration : It is active during 3 to 4 weeks maximum.
After use : Throw it away. Never leave it for more than 4 weeks, because once saturated, it could release the absorbed toxins.

🤓 3 Golden Rules for Using Activated Charcoal
1. The "White Bucket Test" (Dustproof)
Activated carbon naturally generates a lot of black dust due to friction during transport. If you put it directly in the filter, your aquarium will look like a coal mine!
Rinse the charcoal under warm (tap) water in a colander or mesh bag until the water running off is perfectly clear for maximum effectiveness, some experts even recommend soaking it for 24 hours in hot water before use to "open" the pores, but a good rinse is usually sufficient.
2. The "Stop & Go" Rule (Medications & Fertilizers)
This is the number one mistake that kills plants or fish. Charcoal is "dumb": it absorbs everything, the bad as well as the good.
In case of illness : Remove the coal immediately BEFORE Do not add medication, otherwise the fish will absorb the treatment within an hour and your fish will not be cured. Add fresh charcoal.AFTER the end of the treatment to eliminate toxic residues.
For plants : If you have a heavily planted aquarium (aquascaping) and you fertilize, only use activated carbon occasionally (3 days a month) to crystallize the water. Using it continuously will deplete the iron and nutrients intended for your plants.
3. Never leave it for more than 4 weeks
Activated charcoal acts like a chemical sponge. Once it's full (saturated), it's useless. Worse : if you leave it for too long (more than 6 weeks), it can undergo a "desorption" process and suddenly release everything it has absorbed into the water.
👉 The advice : Note the date of installation on a small piece of tape stuck to your filter or set a reminder on your phone to throw it away after 1 month.
