The Kenex Eclipse precision scale weighs up to 550 g, to the nearest tenth of a gram. It is used to measure out a powder, such as a fertiliser or a nutrient, even in very small quantities, where a kitchen scale lacks precision. For example, chelated iron DTPA is weighed at 0.5 g per litre for foliar spraying.
This pocket precision scale weighs up to 550 grams, to the nearest tenth of a gram. It fits in the hand, and on the potting bench you can measure out what a kitchen scale cannot weigh: half a gram of powder, a dose of a few grams, a mixture to be divided up.
⚖️ 550 g to the nearest tenth
The stainless steel pan takes powder directly, or a small container. The tare works across the whole range: you place a cup on the pan, zero the display, and from then on you read only what you pour. The backlit screen is easy to read even in a dark corner, and calibration is automatic. The transparent lid protects the pan during transport, and it can also serve as a support during weighing.

🧪 Dosing a soluble powder
The 0.1 gram resolution comes into its own with small doses. As a foliar spray, DTPA chelated iron is dosed at about 0.5 gram per litre: in a one-litre sprayer, an error of one gram triples the dose. The same scale also weighs out the 18 grams of a maintenance dose, and all the powdered supplements in the fertilisers and mineral supplements section.
Chelated iron is weighed to the tenth
If you are treating chlorosis of the leaves, the DTPA 11% chelated iron is the supplement for which this resolution matters most. Its foliar dose of half a gram per litre can be weighed exactly, and you prepare every spray at the same concentration.
The 0.1 g resolution is the smallest step the display shows. The accuracy of each reading also depends on where the scale is placed: set it on a hard, level surface, away from an open window or a fan, and wait for the display to settle before reading. For a dose of less than a gram, weigh 10 times the dose instead, dissolve it in 1 litre of water, then draw off a tenth of this stock solution with a syringe or a measuring cup: the weighing error is divided by the same factor.
🐟 Dosing in aquaponics
In aquaponics, additions are calculated in grams for a few hundred litres of water, a scale at which kitchen scales graduated in whole grams are too coarse. DTPA chelated iron is dosed at about 18 g per 1,000 L to aim for 2 ppm of iron: a 300 L system therefore needs 5.4 g, and an error of one gram represents nearly 20% of the dose. Potassium bicarbonate, which raises alkalinity as explained in the article on pH regulation, is weighed out in the same way: 36 g per cubic metre per degree of KH, or 10.8 g to gain one degree on those same 300 L.
🧽 Care and storage
The 550 g capacity includes the container: a 30 g cup therefore leaves 520 g for the powder or liquid. Do not exceed it, and place the load gently rather than letting it drop onto the pan, because the weighing sensor is sensitive to this. Wipe the pan with a dry cloth after each weighing of fertiliser, since these powders attract moisture, then close the lid. The box contains the scales, their transparent lid and two AAA batteries; closed, they measure about ten centimetres on each side and fit in a drawer with your gardening accessories.
