EHEIM BEASTER 180e pressure washer for ponds and patios
This 180 bar pressure washer cleans the surrounds of a pond, the coping, paving slabs, the liner of a drained pond and dismantled filtration equipment. It has 3 pressure settings and comes with nine accessories.
The machine sprays pressurised water without retaining any of it, and it is used on surfaces, out of the pond water.
The summary
- What you receive: the machine, its 8-metre hose and nine accessories, including the trigger gun, the lance, 4 nozzles and 2 brushes.
- What it does: it cleans the pond edging, paving slabs, the liner of an emptied pond and filter media taken out of the filter.
- What it delivers: 180 bar at most, 510 litres per hour, from a 2,500 watt motor.
- How you adjust it: 3 pressure levels on the display and one nozzle per type of surface, changed with a quarter turn.

180 bar pressure washer for pond edging, paving and liners, with 3 pressure levels
The EHEIM BEASTER 180e high-pressure cleaner is used to scour, out of the water, the pond edge, paving slabs, the liner of an emptied pond and filter media taken out of the filter. It reaches 180 bar and delivers up to 510 litres per hour. It has 3 pressure settings and comes with nine accessories.
This pressure washer reaches 180 bar and delivers up to 510 litres of water per hour. You connect it to a garden tap, choose a pressure level on the screen, and change nozzle with a quarter turn. It cleans the pond edging, paving slabs, low walls, the liner of an emptied pond, stones covered in dried algae and the filter media you have just taken out of the filter. It sprays water and retains nothing: everything it loosens ends up on the ground, wherever you direct the jet.
🚿 What the pressure dislodges
A dried-on alga on a stone, a green film on a paving slab, a limescale crust on a coping stone: these are stuck-on deposits that neither a brush nor the jet from a pipe will really remove, whereas a high-pressure jet takes them off in a few passes. On an emptied pond liner, the same jet removes the organic film that has built up above the waterline. On filter foams taken out of the filter, it dislodges the mud trapped deep inside, which rinsing in a bucket leaves in place.
Always start a metre further away and one power level lower than you think necessary, then move closer until the deposit gives way. Porous stone, decking or a liner will be permanently marked if attacked on the high setting at 20 centimetres, and the mark will not disappear on the next pass. Your supply water can reach 40 °C, which allows connection to a warm water supply.
Restart the filter after scrubbing the sponges
A foam pad cleaned with a jet of water comes out clean, but it has lost some of the bacteria that convert the ammonia released by your fish. The bacterial activator for pond filters is poured directly into the filter, at a rate of 30 ml per cubic metre, and an extra dose after each clean adds live bacteria just when the filter media have the fewest. The same bottle is used for the seasonal restart, when the filter has been thoroughly cleaned during the winter shutdown.
Empty the pond before stripping the liner
This cleaner works on surfaces, and the product in its tank must never reach a pond with fish in it. Empty the pond and move your fish to safety before stripping a liner, or simply do the coping and paving slabs, directing the jet away from the water. To remove sludge from a pond that has stayed full, with the fish still in it, the tool to use is the 40-litre tank sludge vacuum.
🎚️ The 3 pressure levels
The setting is adjusted on the control screen, which offers three pressure programmes marked with pictograms, from the gentlest to the strongest. The same screen shows the lock and the maintenance alert, so you can see at a glance what state the machine is in. The level you choose depends on the surface more than on the dirt: a stubborn deposit on a delicate material is better tackled with several gentle passes than with a single strong one.
Mild level
The gentle setting spares the wood, the liner and painted surfaces, which a full jet eventually marks.
Medium level
The medium setting is used on paving slabs, pond edging and garden furniture, which can withstand a strong jet.
Strong level
The strong level is for stone, concrete and old crusts that will not come off any other way.
🧰 One nozzle per type of surface
Nine accessories come with the machine, and each has its own use. The high-pressure nozzle concentrates the jet into a narrow line, for a joint or a stubborn mark. The turbo nozzle spins that same jet, covering a wider area without losing force. The eco nozzle cuts water consumption on large surfaces. The detergent nozzle automatically draws the product from the built-in 600 millilitre reservoir. Two brushes complete the set, one stiff and one rotary, for scrubbing as you rinse. The water inlet fitting has its own filter, which protects the pump from a grain of sand coming through the pipe.
🔌 Connection and start-up
The water supply is through a reinforced hose of 5 to 25 metres, with a diameter of at least 13 mm (1/2 inch). The tap must supply at least twice the machine's flow rate, at an inlet pressure of no more than 10 bar. On the mains drinking water supply, a non-return valve is required between the tap and the machine. To start up, connect the high-pressure hose to the handle, open the tap fully, switch on, then squeeze the trigger for no more than one minute, until the water comes out without air bubbles.
The socket that powers the machine must be protected by a 30 mA residual current device. The 7.5-metre cable means you will most often not need an extension lead. If you do use one, it must be rated for outdoor use and waterproof, and its plug must stay at least 6 cm above the ground. Its cross-section is 1.5 mm² up to 20 metres in length, and 2.5 mm² between 20 and 50 metres, on a 16 A circuit. The tank takes a neutral shampoo based on biodegradable surfactants, the one recommended in the instruction manual, because any other chemical product can compromise the safety of the machine.
🧽 The foams in your filter
A filter foam becomes loaded with sludge throughout its thickness, and rinsing it in a bucket only removes what sits on the surface. Lay it on the ground, run the hose on medium pressure from one edge to the other, and you will see brown water coming out long after the foam looks clean. Then rinse it in pond water before putting it back, rather than in tap water, to preserve the share of bacterial flora that remains in it. Finally, restart the filter the same day, so that water starts flowing again through masses that are still damp.
🛑 The machine's safety features
The handle has a child safety lock, and the machine has a second one on its body. The automatic shut-off stops the pump as soon as you release the trigger, which prevents it from running dry while you move a pot; even so, do not leave the machine on standby for more than 5 minutes. A maintenance display indicates the servicing required, and a standby signal tells you that the machine is powered on but not working. While it is in use, no person or animal should be within 5 metres of the running machine.
❄️ Maintenance and overwintering
The machine needs no routine maintenance, but two steps keep it in good condition. The filter in the water inlet fitting should be rinsed as soon as the flow weakens, and a nozzle whose pressure becomes uneven can be cleared with a needle from the front, then rinsed with water. Always unplug it before working on it, and clean the outside with a dry cloth, never spraying the machine with water. For winter, store it dry, in a frost-free room. Spare parts remain available for 10 years.
📦 What's in the box
You receive the machine fully assembled, with its hose reel and accessory holder. Also included are the trigger gun, the quick-change lance, the 8-metre high-pressure hose, the stiff brush, the rotary brush, the high-pressure nozzle, the turbo nozzle, the detergent nozzle, the eco nozzle and the water inlet fitting with its filter. The manufacturer's warranty runs for 2 years. The article on pond algae in summer explains why the surrounding areas get dirty again every season.
