Daily carbon supply for a planted tank, with no equipment to install
Easy-Life's EasyCarbo liquid carbon supplies the plants of a freshwater aquarium with the carbon they lack in a closed tank, with no equipment to install. It is dosed daily by the capful, at 1 ml per 50 litres, and up to a maximum of 2 ml in a heavily planted tank.
Carbon is the nutrient that aquarium plants consume in the greatest quantity, and the one that runs short fastest in a closed tank. This bottle supplies it in liquid form, at a rate of 1 ml per day per 50 litres. There is nothing to install under the cabinet, nothing to adjust and nothing to connect, since it all comes down to one daily dose from the measuring cap. In an aquarium with a lot of plants, the dose can go up to 2 ml per day per 50 litres.
📏 The upper dosing limit
The basic dose is 1 ml per day for 50 litres, and no more than 2 ml in a heavily planted tank. Dose with the cap, every day, based on a volume you have actually measured rather than the volume shown on the tank. If your plants stagnate despite a regular dose, first check your lighting before increasing anything, because without sufficient light the carbon supplied is not taken up.
2 ml per 50 litres, never more
Beyond 2 ml per day for 50 litres, dosing is strongly discouraged. This limit stems from the nature of the product, whose label carries the hazard statement reserved for substances harmful to aquatic organisms, with long-term effects.
A 54-litre tank
Just over 1 ml a day is enough to cover your basic dose.
A 200-litre tank
It receives 4 ml a day, and 8 ml at most if it is heavily planted.
A 20-litre nano tank
About 0.4 ml per day is enough, an amount that calls for precise dosing.
🌱 What the plants do with it
Better fed with carbon, your plants gain the upper hand over the algae, which then have fewer resources and recede in most cases. This effect is indirect, since it requires plants in sufficient numbers and enough light for photosynthesis to take place. If your tank only has a few cuttings, carbon alone is not enough to curb the algae: add fast-growing plants instead, which use up the nutrients the algae benefit from.
Test for phosphates if the algae persist
If algae persist despite well-fed, well-lit plants, their food source lies elsewhere, most often in phosphates brought in by fish food or tap water. The phosphate test in drop form gives you their level within a few minutes.
📦 Choosing the capacity
Choose the bottle size according to your tank's consumption, as the base dose is 1 ml per day for 50 litres. A 60-litre aquarium receives 1.2 ml per day, so the 100 ml bottle lasts about 80 days and the 250 ml one nearly 7 months. A 200-litre tank uses 4 ml per day: the 500 ml bottle then lasts a little over 4 months, and the 1-litre bottle about 8 months. At the maximum dose for a heavily planted tank, these durations are halved. The 5-litre container suits anyone looking after several tanks or a large planted volume, and it gives the lowest price per litre of the five sizes.
