Fitting with valve 32 x 16 mm for RDWC 2.0
This 32 x 16 mm through-fitting connects a RDWC 2.0 circuit in 32 mm to a 16 mm flexible pipe. It combines a 32 mm PVC tube, which seats into the seal of a tank, a 3/4-inch threaded valve and a 16 mm barbed connector.
It is available in a straight version, where the pipe continues in line, or a 90° elbow version, where it needs to turn immediately.
The summary
- What it is: a fitting that connects a 32 mm circuit to a 16 mm flexible pipe, with a valve.
- Which circuit: a 32 mm RDWC 2.0 circuit only — not a PRO circuit in 50 mm.
- Two versions: straight when the pipe runs in line, angled when it needs to turn immediately.
- What it's for: draining the system, or connecting it to a reservoir or another tank.
Bulkhead fitting 32 to 16 mm with valve, straight or 90° elbow
The 32 x 16 mm fitting with valve for RDWC 2.0 connects a 32 mm rigid pipe circuit to a 16 mm flexible pipe, so you can drain the system or connect it to a reservoir or another tank. It includes a 3/4 inch threaded valve and comes in a straight or 90° elbow version. It is not suitable for a 50 mm PRO circuit.
This fitting connects an RDWC 2.0 network, which runs in 32 mm rigid pipe, to a 16 mm flexible pipe, with a valve between the two. Its 32 mm tube fits into the seal of a tank bore, just like any other connecting pipe in the network, and its barbed end receives the flexible pipe leading to a drain, a reservoir or another tank.
The diameter to check before ordering is that of your circuit, which must be 32 mm. A PRO network runs at 50 mm and its tanks are drilled to 58 mm, so this fitting will not find a seal to match. The two generations look very similar once installed and filled, and the tube diameter is the only thing that distinguishes them.
🔗 A fitting in three parts
The 32 mm tube
This rigid PVC tube fits into a 32 mm seal and has a 3/4-inch male thread.
The 3/4-inch valve
It screws onto this thread and opens or closes the 16 mm line.
The 16 mm barbed connector
It takes the flexible pipe and screws onto the valve with a union nut.
The 90° elbow
On the angled version, this threaded elbow is inserted to direct the outlet.
The parts screw together and can be dismantled, making it possible to replace the valve on its own or reposition the outlet without disturbing the pipe fitted into the tank. The assembly measures 25 cm in length. To fit it, lower the water level in the system below the hole, lubricate the inside of the seal with a little washing-up liquid, then push the 32 mm pipe in while turning it simultaneously until it sits firmly with no play.
Close the valve before touching the pipe
The fitting sits below the solution level, so a pipe removed with the valve open will drain the tank, and then the entire system, through the outlet. Always close the valve before loosening the nut or moving the flexible pipe, and reopen it only once the pipe is reconnected and its end is positioned where the water needs to go.
A new washer under the fitting
The fitting's pipe is held in the wall by a 32 mm seal seated in the 38 mm hole drilled through the tank. If that seal has already seen several seasons of use, pick up the 32 mm seal pack at the same time: a new seal beds against the pipe without letting a single drop seep through, whereas a seal that has been compressed for a long time no longer recovers its shape properly. The rest of the pack will come in handy for future disassembly of the system.
At the end of the nozzle, you connect a 16 mm flexible pipe, and it is the pipe's destination that determines the fitting's purpose. Directed towards a tank placed lower down, it drains the system without lifting a single tank. Connected to a reservoir or a neighbouring tank, it links them to the system, with the valve allowing you to isolate one from the other while you work on it.
🔀 Straight or angled
The answer lies in the space available in front of the tank, not in the function of the line. If the 16 mm pipe can continue straight for a few tens of centimetres, the straight version is sufficient. If it needs to turn immediately, because a wall, a partition, or a neighbouring tank is right behind, the 90° elbow version prevents the pipe from being forced into too tight a bend. A flexible pipe bent too sharply will kink, and the flow rate will drop without any leak to signal the problem.
🚿 Draining via the valve
A full drain-down of a system is a regular task, since salts that the plants do not consume accumulate in the solution. With this fitting mounted on a tank, you direct the pipe towards a drain or a lower-level container, open the valve, and the solution flows out by gravity. Then fill with clean water while leaving the pump running to flush the circuit, drain again, and prepare a fresh solution.
🧰 Its place in the circuit
The fitting occupies a 38 mm hole left free, either on a grow tank at the end of the chain or on the controller pot. Because the water level is shared across all tanks in an RDWC system, the valve acts on the entire network regardless of where you position it. Choose its location based on accessibility: a valve you can reach without moving a full tank can be operated in seconds, and its nut can be checked at a glance.

Straight or angled?
Both versions make the same reduction from 32 to 16 mm, with the same valve. The only difference between them is the direction in which the pipe runs off.
