The Female-Female PVC T-fitting is the key connector whenever a plumbing network needs to split or merge: pump outlet to several grow beds, filter return to the fish tank, isolation valve branch, parallel feed to a bell siphon. Three socket ends to glue, symmetrical 90° configuration, simple assembly.

The T-fitting is used to distribute one source in two directions (T in downstream distribution), to merge two returns into one (T in upstream collection), or to insert a test point or isolation valve on an existing loop.

Installation : plan the orientation of the three outlets before gluing. Once glued, the T cannot be turned anymore. Mark the correct directions with a pencil on the pipes before slotting.

Flow tip : a straight-through T keeps ~95 % of the flow; a T used at 90° is equivalent to an elbow (significant pressure drop). Adapt the diameter if the outlet feeds a flow-hungry piece of equipment.

The choice depends on your pump flow rate and pond volume. Standard guidance:

Ø 16-20 mm : small indoor systems, filter return, distribution on a grow bed up to 200 L/h.

Ø 25 mm : standard family aquaponics, koi pond up to 2000 L, pumps 1000-3000 L/h.

Ø 32 mm : medium to large pond, aquaponic farm, pumps 3000-8000 L/h, large-volume filter returns.

PVC fittings are assembled by cold chemical bonding in 3 steps:

1. Stripping : apply PVC stripper to both surfaces (pipe and fitting) with a clean brush. This softens the PVC and cleans the surface.

2. Gluing : apply the special PVC glue (Tangit, Griffon) to both surfaces within one minute of stripping.

3. Assembly : slot the pipe into the fitting with a quarter-turn to spread the glue evenly, hold for 30 seconds. Wait 24 hours before pressurising.

PVC bonding is permanent: there is no going back without cutting the piece. Check the orientation of the fittings before it sets.

Yes, rigid pressure PVC (dark grey or blue) used in plumbing is completely inert for fish, plants and biofilter bacteria once the gluing phase is finished and the installation has been rinsed.

Points to watch :

• Rinse the installation thoroughly with clean water before introducing the fish, to remove any glue residue.
• Wait 24-48 hours after gluing before final water filling.
