The female PVC tee is a pressure plumbing fitting with three solvent-weld sockets. The pipes go into the fitting and are glued in, the central branch leaves at 90 degrees to the other two, and the assembly withstands 16 bar at 20 °C. It comes in 25 and 32 mm, and the choice between the two is made on the diameter of the pipe you already have.
🔀 Splitting or joining a line
A tee does two opposite things depending on the direction of the water. Fitted on the distribution side, it sends a single source in two directions, for example the output of a circulation pump to two grow beds. Fitted on the collection side, it brings two returns together into a single pipe before the filter, which saves you from multiplying the inlets into the tank.
Its third use is insertion: you cut a pipe that is already fitted, glue the tee in its place, and gain a connection point for an automatic top-up or for an isolation valve. The ISO 1452 and EN 1452 standards set the socket dimensions, which guarantees that the fitting accepts standard pressure pipes of the same diameter.
A single pump for watering and circulation
To water the grow beds and circulate the tank with a single machine, the EHEIM universal circulation pump is available from 300 to 3,400 L/h. Choose its flow rate by adding up what the two branches require, the plant manifold and the return to the tank, since the tee splits the pump's flow without increasing it. Its outlet connects to the rigid pipework with a flexible pipe and a barbed fitting glued into the tube.
📏 Diameter and pressure
The diameter of a pressure fitting corresponds to the outside diameter of the pipe, printed on the pipe itself. The 25 mm size suits small domestic circuits, between a tank pump and a few grow beds, whereas the 32 mm size carries more flow over a greater length. A 25 mm pipe will not fit into a 32 mm tee, and the gap cannot be made up with glue: your network should therefore be assembled in the same diameter from end to end, or with a reducer designed for the purpose.
The working pressure of 16 bar applies to water at 20 °C, and the permissible pressure of a pressurised PVC pipe decreases as the water temperature rises, with ISO 1452 covering water up to 45 °C. An aquaponics or pond circuit stays very far from these limits, since the pump circulates the water at low pressure and at ambient temperature. The tee therefore accepts a pump's discharge just as well as a gravity return.

When fish, bacteria and plants share the same water, the tee fitting lets you keep water movement in the tank while the grow beds are being watered. You split the delivery line: one branch goes to the plant manifold, the other returns to the tank and maintains the current there.
