AquaKing AK² pond air pump kit, pipe and diffusers
This kit includes an AquaKing AK² air pump, a distribution valve, porous stones and 25 m of pipe, to aerate a pond or an aquaponic system. The pump is placed in a dry spot, away from the water, and delivers 600 or 1,800 litres of air per hour to 2 or 6 diffusers depending on the version.
The summary
- What you receive: the pump, the distribution valve, 2 or 6 porous stones and 25 m of pipe.
- What the pump delivers: 600 litres of air per hour at 10 W, or 1,800 litres at 25 W.
- Where to place it: somewhere dry and above the water surface, away from the pond thanks to the 25 m of pipe.
- How to choose: 2 air points for a small pond, 6 for a long or divided pond.
Air pump, valve, diffusers and pipe to oxygenate a pond far from a power socket
The AquaKing AK² pond aeration kit aerates a pond far from a socket thanks to 25 m of tubing, which lets you place the pump on dry ground, above the water. It comes in two versions: 600 L of air per hour for 10 W with 2 air stones, or 1,800 L per hour for 25 W with 6 air stones.
An AquaKing AK² air pump, a valve that distributes the airflow, porous stones and 25 metres of pipe arrive together in the same box. You plug in, unroll the line to the water's edge, and the bubbles form at the bottom of the pond. This kit suits a pond that is far from the house, where a power socket cannot be installed next to the water.
The 600 version
It blows 600 litres of air per hour for 10 watts, shared between 2 porous balls.
The 1,800 version
It blows 1,800 litres per hour for 25 watts, spread over 6 porous stones.
The tap
It shares the air between its outlets at the common 4/6 mm diameter, each one adjustable.
The pipe
Its 25 metres can be cut to whatever lengths your installation needs.
🧵 25 metres of pipe
This length changes the way you install aeration. An air pump draws in dry air and cannot be submerged, so it must be placed above the water level, sheltered from the rain. With 25 metres of tubing, you can therefore put it in a garden shed, in a technical chest or under a coping stone, and only the tubing runs down to the diffusers. You also gain some peace and quiet, since the casing no longer vibrates next to where you sit. Measure the total length of your lines before cutting: the 25 metres are shared between the main line and the branches to each diffuser.
The pump always stays dry
This unit is not submersible and must never be placed lower than the surface of the pond. When switched off, a pump placed below that level fills with water through its own pipe, and it will not restart. If you cannot raise it, fit a non-return valve on each outlet in use, and shelter it from the rain.
⚖️ 600 or 1,800 L/h
Both versions give each diffuser the same output, and what separates them is the number of aeration points. The 600 version spreads its 10 litres of air per minute across 2 air stones, roughly 300 litres per hour each; the 1,800 version spreads its output across 6 air stones, which again gives roughly 300 litres per hour per stone. Choose according to the area to be covered: two points are enough for a small pond in a single piece, whereas a long, L-shaped or zoned pond needs bubbles in several places. Power consumption rises more slowly than output, since the 1,800 version draws 25 watts against 10, or roughly 219 kWh a year against 88 when running continuously.
Replacement stones are best bought in advance
The diffusers supplied with this kit are 30 mm porous balls with a 4/6 mm fitting, and an air stone always ends up clogging with limescale. Take two round 30 mm air stones at the same time, which attach to the same fitting. You can then replace the part the day the bubbles get bigger, without waiting for a delivery in the middle of a hot spell, when the water most needs oxygen.
🦠 The oxygen the biofilter takes
When fish, bacteria and plants share the same water, the dissolved oxygen is not used by the fish alone. The bacteria that convert ammonia into nitrate consume 4.57 grams for every gram of nitrogen they process, and this draw goes unnoticed as long as the water holds enough. A biofilter keeps running at full capacity as long as the water leaving it still contains at least 2 milligrams of oxygen per litre. When oxygen runs short, the bacteria that convert nitrite into nitrate slow down before those that produce the nitrite, so nitrite builds up in the water. The nitrogen cycle explains this sequence in detail, and separate aeration gives you the oxygen that the circulation pump alone does not always supply.
🌊 Positioning the diffusers
Each diffuser gets its own line from the distribution valve, rather than a branch taken from the neighbouring line. The flow therefore stays comparable everywhere, and you can close one outlet without affecting the others. Place them slightly above the bottom, on a flat brick or a support, rather than in the sludge: a diffuser sunk into the sediment stirs it up again at every start, which clouds the water for several hours. The article on summer maintenance indicates the periods when this circulation matters most.
