Germicidal UV-C tube that clears the water in freshwater and marine aquariums
The EHEIM replacement UV-C lamp for reeflexUV replaces the tube in reeflexUV and reeflexUV+e 350, 500, 800, 1500 and 2000 sterilisers. It comes from 7 to 24 W depending on the model and keeps its germicidal power for 8,000 hours, or about a year of continuous running. Beyond that, the water may turn cloudy again.
This replacement UV-C tube restores to a reeflexUV or reeflexUV+e steriliser the germicidal power it had when it came out of the box. Five power ratings cover the five models in the range, from 7 W for the 350 to 24 W for the 2000, and the Wi-Fi-controlled versions take exactly the same tube as the standard versions.
🔌 Two bases, two generations
The first reeflexUV 350, 500 and 800 units did not take today's tube. Their lamp had a G23 base, under the references 7315298, 7315168 and 7315308, and the following series moved to the 2G7 base, under the references 4110010, 4111010 and 4112010. The two bases are not interchangeable. Before ordering, open the unit, take out the tube in place and read the reference printed on it: that is the marker that will not mislead you. Models 1500 and 2000 are not affected, since they take a 2G11 tube.
Never touch the glass with bare hands
The tube contains mercury and its glass breaks easily. Handle it with a soft cloth rather than bare fingers, and never switch it on outside its housing, because UV-C radiation damages the eyes and skin even at low doses. A used tube should be taken to a recycling centre and must not be put in with household waste.
🧭 Four points to check before ordering
The model
The number printed on the housing gives the power: 350 for 7 W, 500 for 9 W, 800 for 11 W, 1500 for 18 W and 2000 for 24 W.
The base
The 7, 9 and 11 W tubes have a 2G7 cap. The 18 and 24 W tubes have a 2G11 cap.
The reference
Current tubes range from 4110010 for the 7 W to 4114010 for the 24 W, and the reference is printed on the tube.
Service life
A tube lasts 8,000 hours of service, which is roughly a year of continuous running.
This last benchmark is monitored separately, because UV-C output does not stop all at once. It declines while the lamp keeps shining, and beyond 8,000 hours its output is no longer enough for the job required. Water that turns cloudy again while the unit is switched on and the glass sleeve is clean points first to a worn lamp, as the guide on cloudy water reminds you. Allow one year of continuous running, and note the date of the replacement: it will help you the following season.
The steriliser that takes this tube
If it is the unit you are after, rather than its wearing part, the reeflexUV and UV+e UV-C steriliser covers tanks from 80 to 2,000 litres, in both freshwater and seawater. It fits on the outlet pipe of an external filter, and you replace the tube once a year. The tube's power is then determined by the model, so you will no longer need to look it up.
🌱 What the UV leaves for the filter
A steriliser often worries people in aquaponics, because it seems to attack the bacteria that keep the system alive. The unit only treats what floats in the current, and the colonies established on the filter media and in the grow medium stay in place. The nitrogen cycle therefore carries on, and you gain clarity without touching the biological filtration.
📦 How to replace it
The parcel contains the UV-C tube only, in the power rating you chose. First unplug the steriliser and switch off the filter, then remove the two cross-head screws from the cover to take out the support and free the old tube from its socket. Take the new tube out of its box only at this point, with dry hands and a soft cloth within reach, then push it into its socket until it clicks into place. Close the housing before plugging back in, because the lamp must never run with the housing open.
