A digital meter gives a numerical reading in a few seconds. The pH meter measures the acidity of the water, and the EC or TDS meter measures the amount of dissolved salts, in other words the strength of the nutrient solution in hydroponics. Connected controllers monitor continuously and send an alert to your phone when a value leaves the target range.
A pH meter should be calibrated regularly with buffer solutions, and its probe kept moist. For ammonium, nitrite or iron, which no pocket meter can measure, use drop tests.
