Root Riot germination cubes, tray of 24
This tray holds 24 Root Riot cubes of 36 mm in composted peat, supplied moist and pierced with a hole on top, ready to receive a seed or a cutting.
The cube is transplanted whole, into a pot, into open ground or into a soilless growing basket, where its peat stays stable.
The summary
- What you receive: a tray of 24 Root Riot cubes, 36 mm, made of peat and supplied moist.
- What it is for: sowing a seed or planting a cutting in the pre-formed hole in the cube.
- At transplanting: the cube goes whole into a pot, into open ground or into a net pot for soilless growing.
- In hydroponics: the peat in the cube stays stable in the solution.
24 peat cubes supplied moist, to start seedlings and cuttings
Root Riot germination cubes are 36 mm cubes of composted peat, sold in trays of 24 and supplied moist. With a pre-formed hole, each cube takes a seed or a cutting directly, with no preparation. It can be transplanted whole into a pot, into the ground or into a net pot above water, where its peat stays stable.
This tray holds 24 Root Riot cubes of 36 mm, made of composted peat held together by a bio-based binder, and supplied already moist. Each cube has a pre-formed hole in the top, which takes the seed or the stem of a cutting with no preparation at all. Its spongy texture holds both the water and the air that the young roots of your seedling need, and its pH stays stable at around 6.0. The cubes are enriched with major nutrients and trace elements, which feeds the plant during its first few days, before transplanting into a pot, into the ground or into a soilless system.
🌱 Sowing or taking cuttings
For a seedling, place one seed in the hole of the cube, or two for the finest seeds, then put the tray somewhere warm until germination. For a cutting, dip the cut end of the stem in a rooting gel, then place it in the pre-formed hole without forcing it, just deep enough for it to stand upright. The 24 cubes come apart one by one, so you can start a batch of seedlings today and another 14 days later, keeping the remaining cubes in their resealed packaging. A full tray will, for example, fill a salad planter or a first growing row, with some margin for seeds that fail to germinate.
A ventilated dome for seedlings and cuttings
Placed under the dome of a germination kit with a watertight base, the tray keeps a humid atmosphere around the cubes, which then dry out much more slowly. This is especially useful for cuttings, which have no roots yet to make up for the water lost through their leaves. The dome vents can be adjusted to let excess humidity escape as soon as the seedlings emerge, and you then remove the dome gradually before transplanting.
Rewetting a dry cube without soaking it
A cube left near a radiator or in the sun loses its moisture and hardens. To rehydrate it, place it in a bowl of lukewarm water for a few minutes, then let it drain. It should become soft and damp to the touch again, without dripping, because a waterlogged cube lacks air and the young root is starved of oxygen.
🐟 Towards a soilless system
The peat in these cubes stays stable in a hydroponic system, which means you can transplant the plant with its cube into a net pot, without removing it from the cube. A 5 cm net pot takes the 36 mm cube, and the pot is then placed in the hole of a gutter, a raft or a tank lid. In aquaponics, you can thus prepare your plants under cover while the system runs, then the cube goes in whole in its net pot, and the roots reach the pond water through the slots. The guide to succeeding with spring seedlings in aquaponics complements these steps for the season.
In open ground or in a pot, the cube is planted whole, level with the surface, and the roots grow through it to carry on into the soil. Its material is certified biodegradable, so it then breaks down on the spot, leaving nothing to remove. Between sowings, keep your tray in its resealed packaging, at room temperature and out of direct sunlight, so that the cubes keep the moisture they had on delivery. The same tray can therefore be used for seedlings destined for the vegetable patch as well as for those going into an above-ground system.
📦 What's in the tray
You receive a tray of 24 Root Riot cubes of 36 mm, supplied moist and ready to sow, in their original packaging. Each cube can be detached from the tray by hand, without tools, as you sow. The nutrients in the cube cover the first few days; once the first true leaves appear, a lightly dosed growth fertiliser takes over in the watering water, then in the solution after transplanting.

Your estimate
It covers preparing your order and then the transit time quoted by the carrier, counted in working days.
It is not a guaranteed delivery date: public holidays, peak periods, customs or a carrier delay can extend it. The exact amount, in your currency, is worked out in the cart once your address is entered.
The cubes travel moist in their sealed packaging, which adds a little weight to an otherwise very small parcel. The exact shipping cost is displayed at checkout once the delivery address has been entered.
