The summary

  • What you receive: two coconut-fibre planter liners, 76 by 20 centimetres.
  • Preparation: soak in water for 10 minutes before filling.
  • Drainage: holes already pierced, so excess water drains away on its own.
  • Where to place them: wall planter, hanging basket, railing bracket.
  • Fitting: no tools needed, into a metal or wooden support.
  • How they arrive: in a light parcel, the two pieces nested together.

Two 76 cm coconut fibre liners, for a hanging or wall-mounted planter

The 76 cm coco fibre planter liners, pack of 2, line a balcony rail planter, a wall bracket or a metal trough. Each piece measures 76 × 20 cm, an elongated shape that lets you line up several plants. The porous fibre lets air circulate around the roots, and the pre-drilled holes drain off excess water.

This set contains two coco coir planter liners, 76 cm long and 20 cm wide, in an elongated shape known as boat format. Each one slips into a balcony bracket, a metal trough or a wall-mounted bracket, and takes the grow medium and plants directly. The fibre comes from the husk, the fibrous covering around the coconut, and it keeps a porous texture: the walls let air through to the roots, which a plastic tub does not. It holds moisture evenly and lets excess water drain away through the pre-drilled drainage holes, so your plants avoid waterlogging.

🪢 Installation in 5 minutes

Assembly needs no tools: the liner slides into a metal or wooden support, with no screws or wall plugs, and the support carries the weight. Before filling it, soak it for 10 minutes in water, so that the fibre relaxes, regains its full volume and takes the shape it will keep afterwards. Pour in your grow medium, plant up, then hang or fix the planter to the wall: this order saves you from handling an already heavy liner at height. Allow less than 5 minutes per piece once the fibre is ready, and choose a light, free-draining grow medium so as not to overload the support.

A gasket made of the same material

The compressed coco fibre fills these liners in the same material as their walls, and it stays light once rehydrated, which is kind to the growing medium. A 70 L block fills both liners generously and leaves you enough to pot on elsewhere. A layer of clay pebbles at the bottom limits the loss of fines through the holes during the first waterings.

Filled dry, and left outdoors

Filling a liner that is still dry is the first mistake: the fibre shrinks as it dampens, the grow medium settles and the shape sinks in the middle. So the 10 minutes of soaking should not be skipped. A plant-fibre liner left outdoors all year round fades and gradually wears out, which is the trade-off for a container that will end up on the compost heap rather than at the recycling centre.

🪟 What a long shape allows

Over 76 cm in length, you can line up several plants where a round pot takes only one or two, and the liner follows the line of a railing or a window sill. Choose your plants with the shallow depth of a hanging planter in mind: shallow-rooted crops that you harvest often or that trail downwards. As the two pieces are identical, you can fit one on each side of a window or line them up along the same railing.

Herbs

Parsley, chives and coriander line up along the 76 cm, within easy reach from the kitchen.

Trailing flowers

They form a continuous mass rather than isolated pots, along a railing or a wall.

Young shoots

Lettuces and radishes occupy a container that fills and turns over quickly.

🍂 Between seasons

At the end of the season, empty the liners, leave them to dry under cover and store them somewhere dry, nested one inside the other as they were on delivery. Fibre that stays waterlogged all winter wears out faster than fibre that has dried. In spring, a fresh 10-minute soak restores its suppleness before you fill it. Once the walls have thinned to the point of letting the grow medium through, the liner goes on the compost heap along with what it held, and a new pair takes its place in the same holder.
