Clip-together connectors for assembling, repairing, or closing a square-tube support frame
A square-tube frame is held together by its fittings, and a single broken piece is enough to make a whole support unstable. Both pieces slot into a tube with a 30 x 30 mm external cross-section. The T-insert, in black polypropylene, joins three tubes at right angles, and the finned end cap, in black polyethylene, seals the end of an open tube. No tools are required, simply push each piece in by hand or with a rubber mallet.
These are the leg fittings for the hydroponic gutter system, where the white square tubes hold the gutters at a comfortable working height. They also suit any structure you assemble yourself from square tubing of this section, whether that is a tank support, a seedling shelf, or a frame for a growing table. You simply combine the inserts and end caps with tubes cut to the required length, adapting the structure to the space available.
📐 Two components, two roles
The T-insert measures 138 mm long by 84 mm high. Its three branches fit into three tubes, two in line and one at a right angle, forming a cross-piece or the start of a leg. The finned end cap, 30 x 30 mm and 25 mm deep, has flexible fins that press against the inner wall of the tube and hold it in place without adhesive. It protects the floor, prevents an open tube from filling with water or soil, and saves you from a sharp edge at the end of each leg.
Scrubbing the pipes during support maintenance
A cracked insert weakens an entire upright, and the gutter it supports loses its slope, which slows the flow of the solution. If you shut down the drip system to replace the part, take the opportunity to run the 16 mm bottle brush through the connecting pipes, where a biofilm gradually reduces flow rate. You can then restart with a level installation and a clean circuit in a single operation.
Measure the pipe on the outside
These fittings are designed for a square tube measuring 30 x 30 mm on the outside. A tube with a very thick wall may leave too little room for the insert. Check the cross-section and wall thickness of your tube with a calliper before ordering, and do a dry-fit test before final assembly.
T-insert

Take a 120 x 60 cm seedling bench assembled from square tube, with four legs and a low crossbar on each long side. Two T-inserts connect the crossbars to the legs on one side, then two more on the other side, 4 inserts in total, and 4 end caps close the bottom of the legs. Two packs of inserts and one pack of end caps are therefore sufficient for this frame.
🔨 The assembly
Cut the tube perfectly square and deburr the inside with a file, otherwise the fitting will be forced in and may crack. Push the insert or end cap in by hand first, then finish with a rubber mallet, never a metal hammer. Without adhesive, the structure remains demountable; for a permanent structure, a screw passing through the tube and insert locks the fitting in place.
