This powdered mineral growth fertiliser, NPK 12-6-16, dissolves in the watering water and supplies nitrogen, phosphorus, potassium, calcium, magnesium and chelated trace elements in a single part. It is dosed at 0.2 to 1.3 g per litre, from the first roots to pre-flowering.

The 1 kg bag makes up about 770 litres of solution, in hydroponics, on coco coir or in soil.

The summary

  • What you receive: a 1 kg bag of soluble powder, enough for about 770 litres of solution in full growth; it is also available as a bundle with the flowering formula.
  • The period: from first roots to pre-flowering, or the whole cycle for salad crops and herbs.
  • The dose: from 0.2 g per litre at first roots to 1.3 g per litre in hydroponics, a little less in soil.
  • Mineral or organic: a mineral formula that is available to the plant as soon as it dissolves, not usable in organic farming.

Complete one-part mineral fertiliser for growth, in hydroponics, on coco fibre and in soil

DryPart Grow is a complete mineral fertiliser in powder form, with an NPK formula of 12-6-16, which dissolves entirely in the watering water or in the reservoir. A single powder supplies nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium, but also calcium, magnesium, sulphur and chelated trace elements, so you have no second bottle to dose and no mixing order to follow. Of its 12% nitrogen, 10.5% is in nitrate form, which the roots absorb directly. This is what sets it apart from the organic NPK 7-2-8 growth powder, whose plant-based nitrogen must first be mineralised by micro-organisms.

🌱 From first roots to pre-flowering

In hydroponics and on coco fibre, the dose follows the development of the plant: low while the root system is forming, it rises with the leaf area, then drops when the plant prepares to flower. The conductivity of the solution, expressed in millisiemens, lets you check that the concentration matches the stage, from 0.2 to 0.4 mS at the first roots up to 1.3 to 1.8 mS in full growth. In pre-flowering, you combine this formula with DryPart Bloom, the NPK 6-17-15 flowering formula, which then takes over on its own, and the two sachets are also available as a bundle, one of each formula. A lettuce or aromatic herbs, harvested before they flower, are therefore grown entirely with DryPart Grow.

First roots

You dissolve 0.2 g of powder per litre of solution.

First true leaves

The dose goes up to 0.7 g per litre, for 0.6 to 1 mS.

Full growth

The dose reaches 1.3 g per litre, or 52 g for 40 litres.

Pre-flowering

You dissolve 0.8 g of each formula per litre.

💧 In soil and with a watering can

In soil, whether in pots or in the vegetable garden, the application table includes a column of lower doses. The programme starts at 0.15 g per litre, rises to 0.6 g at the first true leaves and reaches at most 0.9 g per litre in full growth. For a 10-litre watering can, that means 9 g of powder, which you weigh on kitchen scales rather than by the spoonful. The formula contains buffers that stabilise the pH of the solution at the level you have set, and it also suits very soft water, since it supplies its own calcium and magnesium.

Adjust the pH only once, when filling

The formula's buffers hold the pH at the set level, but they do not choose it for you. When you fill the tank, you therefore measure the solution with a liquid pH test, then bring it down to between 5.5 and 6.5, or between 6.4 and 6.8 from pre-flowering onwards, with a few drops of liquid pH- adjuster. The solution then holds that value between refills, and your roots have access to the chelated iron and manganese in the formula.

Dissolve the powder in the full volume of water

Pour the dose directly into the reservoir or into a watering can that is already filled, never into a shallow layer of water, because if they are too concentrated, the elements in the powder react with one another and the fertiliser loses its effectiveness. Do not exceed 2 g per litre, even to make up for slow growth. Store your sachet away from heat and combustible materials such as cardboard or wood, as the powder is classed as oxidising. It also causes serious eye damage: wear goggles when opening and measuring it, and rinse thoroughly with water in case of splashes.

🔬 The composition in detail

Phosphorus stays moderate, at 6%, since leaf growth uses less of it than flowering does, while potassium reaches 16%. Calcium, at 6% calcium oxide, goes into building cell walls, and magnesium, at 3.3%, into building chlorophyll. The formula also supplies 8% sulphur trioxide, DTPA-chelated iron, EDTA-chelated copper, manganese and zinc, together with boron and molybdenum. The chelates keep these metals dissolved in the solution, so you do not need to add any trace-element supplement while your plants are growing.

🐟 In an aquaponic system

In aquaponics, it is the fish waste, converted into nitrates by the bacteria in the filter, that feeds the plants, and the water circulating between the beds does not receive a complete fertiliser like this one. DryPart Grow has its place alongside, for seedlings and young plants raised in a small separate reservoir before transplanting, or for a neighbouring soilless crop. When the fish water is short of potassium or trace elements, the right supplement is the liquid organic fertiliser for aquaponics, formulated for water that houses fish. The article on the difference between aquaponics and hydroponics explains these two ways of feeding your plants in detail.
