A wormery turns peelings into compost and worm tea thanks to surface-dwelling worms. Choose it according to the size of the household and the location. In a flat, the terracotta Compost'In, 26 cm in diameter and 8 L per ring, suits 1 or 2 people and composts up to 27 kg of food waste per year; its porous wall evaporates excess water, so there is no liquid to empty. The tiered Worm Café, designed for up to 6 people, collects worm tea through a tap, to be diluted at 1 part to 9 parts water.

In the garden, the in-ground Compostino, from 1 to 12 L, composts about 1.5 kg of food waste per year per litre, right next to the crops. The colony is sized at the start: the Worm Café product page recommends 250 g of worms for 1 to 2 people and 1 kg for more than 4. The live worms, Eisenia andrei, hortensis and fetida, number about 2,000 per kilo. To use the compost in the vegetable garden, read Worm compost, a natural fertiliser.
