🌿 Why does your system need chelated iron ?
Iron is an essential nutrient for photosynthesis and plant growth. Without it, leaves yellow (iron chlorosis) while keeping their veins green. In aquaponics and hydroponics, iron easily precipitates depending on the water's pH, which is where chelation comes in.
13% EDTA chelated iron protects iron from precipitation thanks to the chelating agent EDTA, which keeps iron in a form directly absorbable by plant roots and leaves, in acidic pH up to 6.5. This is the most concentrated form of chelated iron on the market and the most economical per gram of pure iron.
🌱 Advantages of 13% EDTA Iron
With its maximum concentration at 13%, this chelate offers the highest iron content of the three main available forms, allowing for very low dosages and the best value for money per gram of pure iron. It is the preferred solution for hydroponic growers due to its economic efficiency.
Particularly active between pH 4 and 6.5, it is perfectly suited for hydroponics and all acidic systems. Unlike EDDHA, it does not color the water : your pond remains perfectly clear after each application. Its total solubility in water guarantees dissolution without residue, and its dual application, foliar spray on leaves, or radical directly in the water, gives you great flexibility of use.
Tested and validated for aquaponic environments, it is safe for your fish and compatible with organic farming specifications. In foliar use, it is particularly effective for rapidly resolving visible chlorosis: symptoms disappear in just a few days.
🧑🌾 Recommended dosage
- Prevention (maintenance) : 10 g per 1,000 L of water
- Curative treatment (confirmed deficiency) : 15 g per 1,000 L of water
- Foliar application : 1 to 2 g/L of water, spray on leaves
- Target rate in water : 2 to 3 ppm (mg/L) of iron
- Frequency : one application every 2 to 3 weeks
💡 Tip : Use an iron tester to check your level before and after adding. The ideal rate in aquaponics is between 2 and 3 ppm. EDTA being the most concentrated, you use less product for the same result, which makes it the most economical solution.
⚠️ Note on UV lamp and pH
EDTA iron is photodegradable : UV light can break the bond between iron and the chelating agent. If your system is equipped with a UV lamp, turn it off for 6 to 12 hours after each application.
Important : EDTA loses its effectiveness above pH 6.5. If your pH consistently exceeds 6.5, switch to DTPA 11% (active from pH 4 to 7.5) or EDDHA 6% (active from pH 6 to 11) depending on your case.
🐟 Compatible with all systems
13% EDTA iron is primarily intended for hydroponic installations in all their forms (NFT, DWC, drip, aeroponics), as well as conventional soilless cultures. It is also perfect for aquaponic systems with acidic pH, typically young systems, those supplied with rainwater, or those whose biofilter acidifies the water. In general, any system maintained consistently between pH 4 and 6.5 will make the most of this form of iron.
