Tropical Pond Sticks Mixed floating sticks for pond fish
Tropical Pond Sticks Mixed are a complete food in floating sticks for pond fish: koi, goldfish and other cyprinids. Their reduced phosphorus content limits the supply of nutrients to algae.
They are sold in 5 L or 11 L tubs, or in a 50 L bag.

A light staple food, low in phosphorus, for koi and goldfish
In a garden pond, fish live largely on what they find: insects, larvae, algae and plants. The food you give them completes this menu and supports growth during the warm season. Tropical's Pond Sticks Mixed are an economical staple food, in floating multicoloured sticks, suited to koi, goldfish and other ornamental cyprinids.
🐠 A recipe designed for the pond
The analysis states 23% protein, 3% fat, 1.5% fibre and 8% moisture, with a phosphorus content below 0.7%. This light formula suits pond fish, whose needs are more modest than those of farmed fish in full growth. The low phosphorus content is of direct benefit to you, because what the fish do not absorb feeds algae less. The sticks are enriched with vitamins A, D3, E and C and with trace elements, and contain pigments that bring out the reds and yellows.
The sticks float, which lets you see the fish come to feed and easily remove what is left. They are light: the 11 litre bucket holds about 900 g of food. This is an everyday maintenance food; for koi that you want to grow quickly, a higher-protein food takes over in high summer.
🌡️ Feeding according to temperature
Above 15 °C
The fish take one to two meals a day.
Between 10 and 15 °C
A single small meal a day is enough.
Below 10 °C
Feeding stops until spring.
At every feed
The ration matches what is eaten within a few minutes.
Pond fish are poikilothermic: their body temperature, and therefore their digestion, follows that of the water. If your 6,000-litre pond houses ten goldfish and three young koi, two small handfuls a day, eaten within 3 to 5 minutes, are enough in July. In October, when the water drops below 15 °C, a single handful a day is right, and once the water falls below 10 °C, feeding stops until spring. At this rate, the 11-litre bucket covers a good part of the season.
A pond net to remove leftovers
After 5 minutes, any sticks still floating no longer have any reason to be eaten. The wide-mesh pond net lets you remove them before they sink and decompose. This avoids feeding algae and clouding the water, especially in summer, when warm water quickly breaks down organic matter.
Choose the size according to the fish population in your pond. The 5-litre bucket suits a small goldfish pond or lets you test the food, the 11-litre one covers a season for a medium pond, and the large 50-litre bag, or 4 kg, is meant for large ponds, lakes or anyone feeding several ponds. Reseal the packaging well and keep it somewhere dry and cool, as damp degrades the vitamins.
A pond food is also judged by what it leaves in the water. A stick that floats for a long time without breaking up gives the fish time to find it, whereas a food that disintegrates quickly or sinks to the bottom decomposes unseen, loads the water with ammonia and phosphates and feeds algae. In summer, when the water is warm, two small meals are better than one large one, because the dissolved oxygen content falls and a heavy digestion tires the fish. Watch them during feeding: a solitary fish that no longer comes to eat deserves to be monitored. A pond thermometer tells you when to change the feeding rhythm.
🌱 In aquaponics
In outdoor aquaponics, goldfish and koi are common choices for your fish tank, as they cope well with temperature swings. A floating feed helps you measure the ration precisely, and therefore the amount of nitrogen that goes to the plants: the fish eat what they can see, and any surplus can be removed before it clogs the filter. With a 23% protein feed, ammonia production stays moderate, which suits a lightly stocked system or the end of the season. The article on feeding your fish in winter explains how to adjust rations as the water cools.
