The summary

  • What it is: the part of the TriPart system that supplies iron and trace elements. NPK 5-0-1, hard-water version.
  • Hard or soft water: choose this version if your tap water exceeds 70 mg of calcium per litre. This is the case for most mains supplies in France.

Iron and trace elements, version for hard tap water

TriPart Micro Hard Water is the part of the Terra Aquatica TriPart system that delivers iron and trace elements, in an NPK 5-0-1 formula. It is the former FloraMicro Hard Water, formulated for hard tap water, the type supplied by the majority of French mains networks. It contains two to three times less calcium nitrate than the soft water version, because your water already provides it, and it is the only one of the three parts present at a high dose from seedling to harvest.

The difference from the soft water version comes down to one ingredient: calcium nitrate, present here at between 5 and 10 per cent compared with 15 to 22.5 per cent in the other. Everything else remains the same: the same chelated iron, the same trace elements, the same NPK 5-0-1 label formula. Using TriPart with the wrong version will not cause it to stop working altogether: it will simply drift, gradually, towards a calcium surplus or deficiency.

Finding out whether your water is affected

The distributor's analysis

Published every year, often enclosed with your bill. Look for the calcium line, in milligrams per litre. Above 70, this is the version to use.

The hardness test

A standard aquarium drop test kit is sufficient. Calcium hardness can be converted: 1 French degree equals approximately 4 mg of calcium per litre.

The indicator that doesn't lie

White deposits in the kettle, scale on the taps, a reservoir pH that rises on its own after adjustment.

pH that rises on its own: the hallmark of hard water

You adjust to 6.0 in the evening and find 6.8 the following morning. It is neither the pump nor the plants: it is the bicarbonates in your water reasserting themselves. A pH- corrector neutralises these bicarbonates; until they are consumed, every adjustment is only temporary.

Living with Hard Water

Hard water isn't bad water, it's water that already has an opinion about pH. Its bicarbonates act as an alkaline reserve: they absorb the acid you add, then release that value back into the reservoir over the following hours. As long as that reserve hasn't been depleted, every adjustment is temporary, and that's precisely the job of the pH- corrector: to neutralise it once and for all, rather than chasing the value every morning.

Calcium makes itself known elsewhere than on the pH meter. It builds up as a white crust inside drippers, on diffusers, on pump impellers, and on probes, where it skews readings before restricting flow. Between crops, soaking small components in white vinegar diluted 50/50 for one to two hours dissolves this scale without scratching the parts. Rinse thoroughly with clean water afterwards, and never pour that vinegar into a system that's running.

The simplest solution is to dilute the problem: blending tap water with rainwater, in equal parts, for example, reduces both bicarbonate levels and calcium hardness proportionally. If your water becomes consistently soft, or if you switch to a reverse osmosis unit, you'll need the soft-water version of TriPart Micro: it contains the calcium nitrate that your water no longer provides.

What this bottle provides that the other two don't

Iron, manganese, zinc, boron, copper, and molybdenum. These elements are measured in milligrams per litre of solution, yet their absence shows quickly: a solution deprived of iron produces yellowing young leaves within eight to ten days, with veins still green. That is why Micro is present at every stage, from 0.5 ml per litre at the first roots to 2 ml at pre-flowering, where Grow and Bloom rise and fall in turn.

These six elements are exactly what the Grow and the Bloom don't provide. Here is what each one does and how its absence shows up on the plant.

These six elements are measured in milligrams per litre of solution, which makes them no less essential.

H318, causes serious eye damage

The concentrate carries a hazard statement, the only one of the three containers to do so, due to its nitrate content. Wear safety glasses and gloves when dosing; rinse thoroughly and seek medical advice if splashed in the eyes. Once diluted in the reservoir at working doses, it no longer presents this risk.

How long does a bottle last

Of the three parts, this is the one that runs out fastest, because it is the only one present at a high dose from seedling to harvest while Grow and Bloom take turns. Here is what each bottle size actually covers.

Calculated at the full growth dose of 1.2 ml per litre: the listed price divided by the volume in millilitres, multiplied by the 120 ml required for 100 litres of solution. Prices as of 25 August 2026.

Moving from the 1-litre bottle to the 5-litre container nearly halves the cost per litre of solution. For a first reservoir, the complete TriPart and pH kit brings together all four 1-litre bottles and avoids tying up large volumes before you know your consumption.

When dosing, each part is added to the water separately, never one into the other, rinsing the measuring cup between each addition. The calcium in this bottle and the phosphorus in the Bloom, if brought into contact in concentrated form, produce an insoluble phosphate that sinks to the bottom and can no longer be absorbed. The Starter Kit brings all three parts together in 500 ml, with a pH adjuster sachet, so you can try the system without buying four separate bottles. In the box

The 5-0-1 formula is the one printed on the label. The ammonium nitrate and calcium nitrate contents, the H318 classification, the SVHC designation for boric acid, the pH of the concentrate, the density and the appearance all come from the manufacturer's French safety data sheet, version 9 dated 25 July 2024, compared line by line with that of the freshwater version. The 70 mg of calcium per litre threshold is corroborated by two independent reseller data sheets but has not been found verbatim in a manufacturer document: treat it as a guideline. Grow, Micro, Bloom: what each one does in the TriPart system

The three bottles are not interchangeable and none can be used on its own. The Micro is the one that never leaves the stage, and the only one available in two versions depending on your water.
