Description

80% Shade Net

Shade cloth made of 80% woven high-density polyethylene (HDPE) that blocks up to 80% of solar radiation while allowing air and some diffuse light to pass through. It reduces the temperature under shelter by 5 to 10 °C during heatwaves, protects skin and plants from UV, and limits evaporation for sensitive crops.

Reinforced edges with six braided threads and metal eyelets every meter for secure fastening with ropes or bungee cords. Available in several sizes (from 2×2 m to 5×10 m) and in brown or green colors to blend naturally with your outdoor space.

☀️ 80% Sun Protection and Thermal Comfort

With an 80% solar blocking rate, this net significantly reduces the amount of direct radiation on the ground and the surface temperature in the shade. This makes a terrace, pergola, or garden corner much more livable in summer, without having to invest in a rigid shade sail or a motorized outdoor awning.

For plants, 80% shade is the standard ratio to protect heat-sensitive crops (tomatoes during heatwaves, bolting lettuce, exposed potted plants) without suffocating photosynthesis. The diffuse light that passes through is sufficient for growth, and excessive heat is repelled.

The HDPE weave allows air and rainwater to pass through, which prevents the pressure cooker effect that would be observed with a solid tarp. This is essential for greenhouses, where the goal is to reduce temperature without blocking ventilation.

🪡 Reinforced Weave and Eyelets

The net is tightly woven from HDPE, a polymer known for its resistance to UV, tearing, and mechanical wear. The weave maintains its shape even after several seasons of outdoor use, without fraying or deforming at the folds.

The edges are reinforced with six-thread stitching, and a metal eyelet is placed every meter around the perimeter. These eyelets allow for clean fastening with nylon cords, bungee cords, or metal tensioners on any support: posts, pergola structure, fencing, tree branches, tunnel greenhouse structure.

The fabric can be cut to the desired size if needed, but this will result in losing the eyelets on the cut edge. For most uses, it is better to choose the size closest to your needs directly.

💨 Windbreak and Anti-UV Effect

In addition to shading, the 80% net acts as a partial windbreak: it breaks gusts without creating turbulence behind the screen. This is useful for protecting a row of potted plants, an outdoor dining area, or a terrace exposed to prevailing winds.

The integrated anti-UV treatment in the HDPE polymer prevents discoloration and premature degradation. With seasonal use (May to September for example), the typical lifespan is 5 to 8 seasons, or even longer with moderate use.

🏡 Recommended Uses

The net can be used for many purposes: shading a pergola, terrace, or patio in summer to enjoy meals outdoors without overheating, protecting a tunnel greenhouse or garden frame from overheating (June-August), covering a chicken coop to provide shade for chickens, shading an exposed pond to limit the proliferation of green algae, a garden screen to block unwanted views while remaining breathable, a partial windbreak on a windy urban balcony, protecting potted plants during heatwaves, covering kennels or animal enclosures, and even for use on construction sites to protect workers from direct sun.

📕 Guide and Practical Advice

Installation: Unroll the net over the area to be shaded, align the eyelets with the attachment points (posts, rings, branches). Use nylon cords or bungee cords to tension the net, not too tightly to preserve flexibility, but enough to prevent flapping in the wind. For a fixed pergola, allow for a slight slope to drain rainwater and prevent puddles.

Typical use: Install from May to September in hot regions for summer protection. For a tunnel greenhouse, deploy on the main south-facing side and leave the other sides accessible for ventilation. For a terrace, install at a height of 2.5-3 m to allow circulation underneath without head contact.

Mistakes to avoid: Do not over-tension (HDPE has limited elasticity and eyelets can tear out), do not leave the net hanging without tension (flapping and rapid wear in the wind), do not use as a waterproof rain cover (the net is 80% permeable), do not expose to very windy areas without reinforcing the fastenings (gusts can tear out eyelets if the net is not properly tensioned).

Maintenance: Rinse with clear water at the end of the season to remove dust and pollen, let dry completely flat or suspended, then fold and store indoors for the winter. If you leave the net in place all year round, it will age faster but will remain usable. Avoid aggressive detergents that can alter the anti-UV treatment.
