Enzymes that clean dead roots out of the grow medium and prepare it for reuse
CANNA's CANNAZYM is an enzyme additive that turns dead roots in the grow medium into minerals and sugars. It is dosed at 25 ml per 10 litres at every watering, and at 50 ml for one month on a reused grow medium, together with the fertiliser and Rhizotonic. In an aquaponic system, it stays out of the fish water.
In a well-functioning root system, some roots die while others form. These dead roots make a very favourable medium for various pathogenic fungi, which multiply there and then threaten the healthy roots, and their decay produces compounds that are toxic to the plant. The whole crop suffers as a result, and growth slows markedly. CANNAZYM is a liquid enzyme additive that speeds up the breakdown of these dead roots. You add it to the irrigation water or the nutrient solution, whether you are growing in soil, coco fibre, rockwool or clay pebbles.
🔬 What the bottle contains
The product combines enzymes, proteins that speed up a specific biological reaction without being used up by it, with a desert plant extract designed to help the uptake of water and nutrients, and with easily assimilated vitamins that stimulate the formation of new roots. CANNAZYM is not a fertiliser: it is added to your usual feeding programme, in the same water, without replacing it. Its colour may change over time without the product being degraded.
Enzymes rapidly break dead roots down into minerals and sugars. This breakdown counts twice over: the released elements become a source of nutrition again for the plant and for the life in the grow medium, and the rapid disappearance of dead tissue reduces the risk of infection by pathogenic fungi. Your grow medium, cleared of its debris, also keeps better air and water circulation around the living roots, and becomes better suited to reuse for a new crop.

Reusing clay pebbles
The clay pebbles in a hydroponic tray can be reused from one crop to the next, but fragments of roots remain trapped between them after the plants are pulled out. A month of solution at 50 ml per 10 litres, at the start of the next crop, helps break them down before they rot in contact with the young roots. Your pebbles are then ready for a new cycle without having to be replaced.
No hydrogen peroxide disinfectant in the tank
Hydrogen peroxide is incompatible with this product: do not mix CANNAZYM with a disinfectant that contains it, and rinse a disinfected tank before preparing your solution. Do not exceed the recommended doses, and keep the bottle closed, away from light and frost, and out of the reach of children.
Shake the bottle, then add CANNAZYM to the irrigation water or nutrient solution from the second week of cultivation, continuously, at every watering or every top-up of the sump tank, and at least once a week. On tomatoes, the range's feeding schedule calls for 25 ml per 10 litres from the growth phase, then without interruption until the end of the harvest, which means more than 25 weeks of applications. Measure the dose with a graduated measuring cup, and prepare only the amount of solution you will use within 4 days.
🐟 The aquaponic bed breaks it down by itself
In an aquaponic grow bed, dead roots are already dealt with by the system itself: the bacteria and micro-organisms living in the clay pebbles break them down, and compost worms introduced into the bed, a practice known as vermiponics, speed this work up further. CANNAZYM therefore has no role in the circuit: designed for watering and hydroponics, it must not be poured into the tank or into a bed connected to the fish.
You can, however, use it around the system: in a separate hydroponic grow bed, in the pots of compost or coco fibre on the terrace, and in the plant loop of a decoupled installation, which runs like any other hydroponic system, with no contact with the fish water. It is also useful for reconditioning a grow medium before reusing it outside the circuit. As for the plants in your system, their real shortfalls concern potassium, iron and calcium, which should be corrected with fish-safe products.
📦 Volumes treated per size
CANNAZYM comes in 250 ml, 500 ml and 1 litre bottles, and in 5 and 10 litre containers. At 25 ml per 10 litres, the 250 ml bottle makes up 100 litres of solution, the 1 litre bottle 400 litres and the 10 litre container 4,000 litres. Allow double during the month spent restoring a reused grow medium. If you change the water in a family hydroponic tray every week, the 500 ml or 1 litre bottle covers a whole season; the larger containers are intended for greenhouses with several sump tanks.
