Sicce Eko Power pond pump for filter and waterfall, 9,100 to 12,800 L/h
The Sicce Eko Power is a submersible pond pump, designed to feed a filter, a waterfall or a protein skimmer. It draws in particles of up to 6 mm without clogging and runs day and night.
The range has three models, from 9,100 to 12,800 L/h, and the 10.0 and 14.0 are supplied to order.
The summary
- Which model: from 9,100 to 12,800 L/h depending on the pond and the head height.
- Particles: up to 6 mm, without clogging.
- Lead time: the 10.0 and 14.0 are supplied to order.
- Warranty: 3 years, rotor excluded.
Submersible pump for filter, waterfall and skimmer, particles up to 6 mm
In a filtered pond, the pump draws in the waste-laden water at the bottom, pushes it into the filter and returns it through a waterfall or a stream that oxygenates it on the way. An ordinary pump clogs quickly with leaves, silt and koi waste. The Sicce Eko Power is designed for this duty: it swallows solid particles up to 6 mm without clogging and sends them straight to the filter, where they are trapped.
🍂 Designed for heavily loaded water
The strainer around the pump has openings of 12 mm on the top, 7 mm on the sides and 5 mm underneath: it lets fine silt pass through to the filter while stopping leaves and small fish. An electronic device protects the motor. The pump always works submerged, never dry, in water that does not exceed 35 °C. A second inlet lets you connect an additional piece of equipment, such as a surface skimmer or an external filter.
The outlet, adjustable through 360°, takes a stepped 1 1/2 inch barbed fitting, suited to 50, 38 or 32 mm pipes, with a shut-off valve, an extension and a ball joint. The flow is adjusted by hand, by turning the intake ring, without opening the strainer. The 10 m cable lets you install the pump in the middle of a large pond and bring the connection back out of the water, to a socket protected by a 30 mA residual current device. The warranty is 3 years, rotor excluded.
Eko Power 10.0
This model delivers 9,100 L/h and pumps up to 3.50 m, at 90 W.
Eko Power 12.0
The maximum head rises to 4.50 m, with 11,500 L/h for 110 W.
Eko Power 14.0
The largest model reaches 12,800 L/h and 5 m head, for 125 W.
All three
Each model lets particles through up to 6 mm and comes with a 10 m cable.
A pressure filter for the Eko Power 12.0
The Eko Power sends water and particles of up to 6 mm to a filter, which must be able to retain them. The Sicce Green Reset pressure filter is designed, in its 60 and 100 L versions, for a pump in the 11,500 L/h class, that is to say the Eko Power 12.0. Its sponges can be washed without opening the tank, and its UV-C lamp limits green water in a pond of 20,000 to 30,000 litres. Because the tank operates under pressure, the filtered water can then be sent on to a waterfall placed higher up.
📏 Choosing the power
The usual rule of thumb for a fish pond is to pass its entire volume through the filter at least every 2 hours, and every hour for a heavily stocked koi pond. You then need to take the delivery head into account: the stated flow rate is measured at 0 m, and it falls as the head increases, until it drops to zero at the maximum head. Take a 10,000-litre pond with the filter 1.50 m above the surface: you need at least 5,000 L/h at that height. The Eko Power 10.0, whose maximum head reaches 3.50 m, still delivers around 5,200 L/h. For a higher waterfall or a koi pond, the 12.0 or the 14.0 give you more margin.
A pond pump runs all season, and its power affects your bill. Running continuously, the Eko Power 10.0 uses about 790 kWh a year and the 14.0 about 1,100 kWh, a difference of nearly 310 kWh for 35 W of extra power. The model that is just sufficient therefore limits the cost, and the intake ring then lets you fine-tune the flow. Place the pump on a stable support, slightly above the bottom, so that it does not draw in the thickest layer of sludge, and clean the strainer as soon as the flow weakens.
The pump must not run in a frozen pond. Before the first frosts, take it out of the pond, clean the strainer and the impeller, then store it somewhere frost-free until spring. When restarting, check the condition of the impeller and the strainer before switching the filter back on. A limescale deposit on the impeller can be removed with vinegar, then under running water with a soft brush, which restores the pump's original flow rate.
🌱 In aquaponics
In a garden aquaponic system built around a pond, the Eko Power feeds the mechanical filter, then the grow beds placed above the water level. For a 4,000-litre pond turned over once an hour and beds at a height of 2 m, the Eko Power 10.0 still delivers about 3,900 L/h, and the 12.0 about 6,400 L/h if you want to keep some margin. The guide to koi carp in aquaponics describes this type of system, and the one on building your own aquaponic system shows where to place the pump and the filter in the circuit.
