Tropical Supervit aquarium fish granules, standard or mini
These Tropical Supervit granules are a complete staple diet for omnivorous aquarium fish. They sink slowly, so each fish catches them at its own level, and they come in standard grain or in mini granules for small mouths.
The summary
- Which size: standard granules in 100 ml, 250 ml or 1 L, mini granules in 100 or 250 ml.
- What it contains: 48% protein, 8% fat, beta-glucan.
- How it behaves: it sinks slowly and feeds fish at every level of the tank.
- How much to give: whatever your fish eat in 2 to 3 minutes, several times a day.
Slow-sinking granules, to feed the whole aquarium from the surface to the bottom
The Tropical Supervit granules are a complete staple food for omnivorous freshwater aquarium fish, to be fed daily. They sink slowly, so surface feeders, mid-water hunters and bottom foragers each get their share on the way down. They come in two grain sizes with the same analysis: the standard granules, in a 100 ml, 250 ml or 1 L tub, and the mini granules, in a 100 or 250 ml tub, for small mouths.
📏 Standard or mini
The choice depends on the size of your fish's mouths, not on how many fish you have. The standard granules suit medium-sized tetras, barbs, rainbowfish and small cichlids, which swallow them whole. The mini granules are intended for neons, rasboras, guppies, young fish and freshwater shrimp, and they also contain a red pepper extract, rich in carotenoids. In a community tank that mixes the two sizes, you can offer both at the same feed: the larger fish take the standard while the small ones find the mini just right for their size.
A ventilated feeder for the days you are away
Thanks to their regular shape, these granules pass smoothly through the drum of an automatic feeder. The EHEIM autofeeder keeps the food in a ventilated chamber, which stops moisture from the tank gluing the grains together, and it dispenses up to 4 meals a day. This way you can feed your aquarium over a weekend or a week away, with a ration set slightly lower than the one you give by hand.
🍽️ The daily ration
Give small portions several times a day, offering at each meal what your fish eat in 2 to 3 minutes. Two meals suit most community tanks, one in the morning and the other in the late afternoon. Granules that reach the bottom uneaten are picked up by corydoras and shrimp if the tank has any; otherwise, they decompose and release ammonium into the water. During an absence of 2 or 3 days, a healthy adult fish can go without food with no difficulty, and a light ration is better than polluted water on your return.
Swollen grains on the bottom indicate overfeeding
If you find swollen or whitened granules on the substrate an hour after feeding, the ration was too large. Reduce it from the next meal and remove the leftovers with a siphon, because as they decompose they cause ammonium and then nitrite to rise, and the water quality of a lightly filtered tank deteriorates within a few days.
Both sizes show the same analysis: 48% protein, 8% fat, 3% fibre and 10% moisture. This protein level meets the needs of growing omnivores as well as those of adults. The recipe also provides beta-glucan, a yeast compound that stimulates natural defences, at 1,000 mg per kilo, plus stabilised vitamin C and zeolite, a mineral that aids digestion. Close the tub straight after feeding and store it somewhere dry, away from light, since damp air degrades the vitamins in a dry feed.
🌱 In aquaponics
In a small indoor aquaponic system, for example an aquarium topped with a grow bed, these pellets feed the ornamental fish most often kept there, such as guppies, platies or small tetras. The feed becomes the plants' only source of nitrogen: the fish excrete ammonium, which the bacteria in the filter convert into nitrite and then into nitrate, the form that the roots absorb. A ration eaten in full therefore feeds the plants without fouling the bottom. The guide on fish to raise in aquaponics helps you stock an indoor tank, and the article on the nitrogen cycle explains this conversion in detail.
