Clear water, and sponges that can be washed without opening the tank
In a garden pond, two problems come back every summer: the particles stirred up by the fish and the microscopic algae that turn the water green as soon as it warms up. The Sicce Green Reset deals with both in a single tank. The water sent by the pump first passes through sponges that trap debris and house the purifying bacteria, then passes in front of one or two UV-C lamps that stop the suspended algae from multiplying. It then returns to your pond, possibly via a waterfall set higher up, since the tank works under pressure.
🧽 Washing the sponges without opening it
The Green Reset handle is used to wash the sponges without opening the tank. When they are clogged, you stop the pump, turn the two selectors to the CLEAN position, connect a pipe to the drain outlet, then restart the pump and work the handle up and down. Each stroke squeezes the sponges, and the dirty water leaves through the drain until it runs clear. You then set the selectors back to FILTER. The operation takes a few minutes, without opening the tank or taking out the filter media, and the water drained off, rich in organic matter, can be used to water a lawn or a flower bed.

📏 Choosing the filter size
These volumes are maximums, valid for a shaded pond with a light stocking. A pond in full sun heats up faster and turns green more readily, and koi produce far more waste than a few goldfish: in both cases, choose the model above. If your 12,000 litre pond is sunny for a good part of the day and stocked with around ten koi carp, the Green Reset 40, rated up to 16,000 litres, would be at its limit, whereas the Green Reset 60 and its two 20 W lamps keep a margin for the summer. A small pond of 5,000 to 6,000 litres, shaded, with a few goldfish, is well served by the Green Reset 25 and its 10 W lamp.
The Green Reset 25 and 40 have three stages, because 120 bioballs, that is 2 litres of media for the bacteria, are added to the sponges at the bottom of the tank. The 60 and 100 L models contain a larger volume of sponges, 27 and 45 litres, which provide both mechanical and biological filtration. You connect the 25 to a pump of about 4,000 L/h, the 40 to a pump of about 5,500 L/h, and the 60 and 100 L to a pump in the 11,500 L/h class. The EHEIM FLOW pond pump comes in flow rates close to these three values, from the FLOW 5000 to the FLOW 12000. The pressure in the tank must not exceed 0.4 bar, which corresponds to a standard pond pump.
Never switch on the UV-C lamp outside its tank
UV-C radiation damages the eyes and skin, even after a brief glance. The lamp must therefore only be powered once it is fitted in the closed filter, with water circulating. Always unplug the filter before opening the lid or changing the lamp, and never look at a lit lamp without its protection.
🔧 Installing and maintaining
Place the filter at least 1 m from the pond, on a stable base, out of direct sunlight and in a ventilated spot. It can also be partly buried, provided the locking clamp stays above ground so that the tank can be opened. Three pipes are needed: the inlet from the pump, the return to the pond and the drain. The stepped fittings accept 25, 32 or 40 mm pipes on the 25 and 40 L models, and 32, 38 or 50 mm on the 60 and 100 L models; secure them with metal clamps. The EHEIM spiral pipe for ponds is available in 25, 32 and 38 mm internal diameter. The UV-C lamp is replaced after about 8,000 hours of operation, which is close to a year of continuous running, and an indicator light confirms that it is working. Before frosts, drain the filter completely and store it somewhere dry, with the lid open.
🌱 In aquaponics
In a garden aquaponic system built around a pond, the Green Reset serves as a mechanical and biological filter ahead of the grow beds: it traps the particles that would clog the roots and keeps the water clear so you can watch the fish. Its pressurised outlet can feed a grow bed directly, provided you place it higher than the pond. The drain-off water, rich in organic matter, becomes a fertiliser for your vegetable garden.
