EHEIM PRESS pressurised pond filter with pump, with or without UV-C
The EHEIM PRESS is a pressurised pond filter, supplied with its FLOW pump, its hose and its filter media. It sits at the edge of the pond, sends the water up to a waterfall and is cleaned by backwashing without being opened, in the 7000 version with or without a UV-C clarifier, or in the 10000 version with UV-C.
The summary
- What it is: a closed pond filter, supplied with its pump, which returns the water to the pond or to a waterfall.
- How to choose: 3,500 L of pond with fish for the PRESS 7000, 5,000 L for the PRESS 10000.
- Against green water: a 9 or 11 W UV-C clarifier on two of the three versions.
- Cleaning: backwashing roughly every 4 weeks, without opening the tank.
- What you receive: the filled tank, the FLOW pump, 5 m of spiral pipe and the fittings.
- How it arrives: delivered to your door, by Colissimo or Chronopost, as you choose at checkout.
Pond filtration kit with pump, backwash cleaning and optional UV-C
A conventional gravity pond filter sits above the water level, and the water drains back down from it through a pipe or a waterfall. The pressure filter works differently: the submersible pump pushes the water into a sealed tank that stays under pressure, so the filtered water can return higher than the filter itself. You can therefore place the tank at the pond's edge, partly submerged or below the water surface, and send the water back to a waterfall or a stream. The kit includes the tank fitted with its filter media, the pump, the pipe and, on two of the three versions, a UV-C clarifier.
💧 The water's path
The FLOW pump, laid flat on the bottom of the pond, draws in the water and sends it through the spiral pipe to the tank's IN fitting. On versions so equipped, the water first passes through the CLEARUVC clarifier, whose ultraviolet radiation destroys the microscopic algae in suspension; clumped into larger particles, they are then trapped by the media. In the tank, the water passes through a coarse blue foam, a FILTERMEC spiral basket and then a fine blue foam, before leaving through the OUT fitting towards the pond or a waterfall. The PRESS 10000 doubles each of these three stages, which explains its taller tank.
WORK mode
The water passes through the filter from inlet to outlet, then returns to the pond or feeds a waterfall.
CLEAN mode
The lid knob reverses the flow of water, which comes out laden with dirt through the DIRTY outlet, with the tank closed.
FLOW pump
It has overheat protection in case of a lack of water, and a 10-metre cable.
Clarifier
The 9 or 11 W CLEARUVC is fitted before the tank, on the pipe, with its 5-metre cable.
Backwashing, known as BACKWASH, is done roughly every 4 weeks. With the pump unplugged, unscrew the cap on the DIRTY outlet, connect a drain pipe to it, then turn the knob to CLEAN before plugging back in. The pump then flushes water in the opposite direction through the foams, and the dirty water goes out to a flower bed in the garden until it runs noticeably clearer. Keep an eye on the pond level during the operation, since this water does not return. Then put the cap back and set the knob to WORK, and the filter resumes service.
Choose the mode before plugging in the pump
The pump starts as soon as its plug goes into the socket, with no switch. So select WORK or CLEAN with the button on the lid before plugging it in, and unplug it before every change of mode, every time you open the tank and every time you work on the clarifier. UV-C radiation is dangerous to the eyes and skin: never switch the lamp on outside its housing.
Replacing compacted sponges with original ones
Backwashing loosens the deposits, but a sponge eventually becomes compacted and stays brown after rinsing. The EHEIM replacement sponges for LOOP and PRESS filters come in a coarse and a fine version, in the exact size for the tank. Replace them one after the other, a few weeks apart: the sponge left in place then seeds the new one with bacteria, and the filter carries on purifying in the meantime.
Take a 4,000-litre pond stocked with a dozen goldfish. It exceeds the 3,500 litres with fish rated for the PRESS 7000, so the PRESS 10000, designed for up to 5,000 litres, is the right choice. A 3,000-litre pond that turns green every summer, on the other hand, stays within the range of the PRESS 7000, in its version with a 9 W UV-C. For koi, the volumes are much lower, since these fish eat and excrete far more: 1,800 litres for the PRESS 7000, 2,500 litres for the PRESS 10000. If you keep koi in a larger pond, you will need a higher-capacity filter.
⚖️ Three versions, two pumps
The PRESS 7000 comes with the FLOW2500 pump, which delivers up to 2,300 L/h and lifts water to a height of 2.4 m, with a power of 38 W. The PRESS 10000 is fitted with the FLOW3500, with 3,200 L/h, 2.9 m and 55 W. The maximum head is the height at which flow drops to zero, so a waterfall placed 1 m above the pond receives noticeably less than the rated flow. The clarifier adds 11 W on the PRESS 7000 and 14 W on the PRESS 10000. Running continuously, the PRESS 7000 with UV-C therefore uses 49 W, or about 1.2 kWh per day, which you can compare with your electricity tariff before choosing.
🧰 Installing it at the pond's edge
Lay the pump flat on a stable base, such as a paving slab or a flat stone, so that it stays covered by at least 20 cm of water and does not draw in sludge. The tank sits at the edge, partly submerged if you wish, on the side opposite the pump so that the filtered water travels through the whole pond. The IN, OUT and DIRTY fittings take 1-inch pipe, and you tighten each union nut onto its sealing washer. Keep the lid, the adjustment knob and the DIRTY outlet clear, since that is where all the cleaning is done. The pond water must stay between 4 and 35 °C.
🧽 Maintenance and winter care
Apart from backwashing, open the tank about every 3 months. With the pump unplugged and the pipes removed, release the 6 clasps of the clamping ring, lift the lid and take out the foams and the basket of spirals. Rinse them in cold water, preferably in a bucket of pond water to protect the bacteria, then put them back in the same order. On UV-C versions, the clarifier tube should be replaced after about 8,000 hours of operation: the Clear UVC clarifier replacement UV bulb is available in 9 and 11 W. Before the frosts, drain the tank and store the whole unit somewhere frost-free.
🌱 PRESS in aquaponics
In an outdoor aquaponic system, where the fish pond feeds the grow beds, the PRESS acts as a mechanical and biological filter at the head of the circuit. Its foam media retain the solid waste that would clog the roots, while the bacteria attached to the media convert the ammonia released by your fish into nitrite, then into nitrate, the form of nitrogen that plants absorb. Because the water leaves under pressure, the OUT outlet can supply beds placed above the pond, within the pump's maximum head. The backwash, on the other hand, sends the rinse water out of the circuit, so you need to top up with water after each clean. The guide to building your own aquaponic system describes this circulation in detail.
