This seaweed concentrate is obtained by cold pressing, without chemical solvents. Low in nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium, it is added to the watering or sprayed onto the foliage at 1 to 4 ml per litre to help your vegetables and flowers recover after stress.
The summary
- Extraction: a liquid seaweed concentrate, obtained by cold pressing without solvents.
- Use: reviving a plant after over-feeding, a deficiency or a temperature shock.
- Dose and dilution: 1 to 4 ml per litre when watering, 1 to 2 ml per litre when spraying.
- Combinations: on its own, with a fertiliser such as Bio-Grow, or as a spray with Acti-Vera and Fish-Mix.
- Aquaponic pond: for the nursery and neighbouring pots, not for the fish water.
- Foliar spraying schedule: sprays up to the second week of flowering, then watering only.
Cold-pressed seaweed to support plants after stress, as a watering or a spray
BioBizz Alg-A-Mic is a cold-pressed seaweed concentrate that helps vegetables cope with stress. It is dosed at 1 to 4 ml per litre of watering or 1 to 2 ml as a spray, on its own or with Acti-Vera and Fish-Mix. Around an aquaponic system, it is used for the nursery and for pots, never for the fish water.
Alg-A-Mic is a biostimulant from BioBizz, made from a marine algae concentrate. The extraction is done by cold pressing, not with chemical solvents. The product contains very little nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium, about 0.2% of each: it therefore does not replace a fertiliser. Its role is to give your plants a whole spectrum of compounds from the algae, which help them recover from a difficult period and get back to growing with green, vigorous foliage.
🌊 A biostimulant against stress
A plant experiences stress whenever its conditions depart from what it needs. Too much fertiliser, a shortage of a nutrient or a night much colder than usual slows its growth, and the foliage often shows it before you understand the cause. Alg-A-Mic is designed for these moments: you add it to the watering water or spray it on the leaves for a few weeks, alongside your usual feeding, until the plant recovers its rhythm. To identify a specific deficiency, the article on plant deficiencies reviews the signs visible on the leaves.
After over-fertilising
Seaweed applications support the plant while it regains its balance in its grow medium.
After a deficiency
Once the missing element has been corrected, Alg-A-Mic supports the resumption of growth.
After a cold snap
Temperature swings at the start or end of the season slow the plant down, and seaweed helps it recover.
At transplanting
A plant that is moved to a new pot or into open ground also goes through a period of stress.
A root stimulator for young transplanted plants
Transplanting is a stress you cause yourself, and it needs preparing for. The liquid organic root stimulator is given to seedlings and cuttings to support root formation, while Alg-A-Mic then supports the recovery of the foliage. Both products are used in the irrigation water, at different stages of the plant's life, so you cover the whole transition from the small pot to the final pot.
Spraying stops after the second week of flowering
Foliar applications continue until the second week of flowering, then stop, so as not to wet the flowers and young fruit. After that, Alg-A-Mic is given only through the irrigation water. Spray preferably outside the hours of strong light, and keep the bottle out of the reach of children.
A biostimulant works differently from a fertiliser. Where a fertiliser supplies the elements that the plant assembles into tissue, a biostimulant supports the processes that allow it to absorb and use them, which explains the low doses and the gradual effect. It therefore does not correct a deficiency by itself: when an element is lacking, supplying that element remains the first response, and Alg-A-Mic then supports the recovery. This is also why it is used as a preventive measure, before problems set in, as much as afterwards.
When watering, the dose ranges from 1 to 4 ml per litre of water, once a week or with each application of fertiliser. On the foliage, you dilute 1 to 2 ml per litre and spray one to three times a week, using a pressure sprayer that gives a fine mist. If you combine Alg-A-Mic, Acti-Vera and Fish-Mix from the same range in the same sump tank, each product is limited to 1 ml per litre. The concentrate can be used on all grow media, soil, compost or coir, indoors as well as in the garden, and on vegetable, fruit and flowering crops.
The 250 ml bottle covers a few pots of herbs, the one-litre bottle a family vegetable garden and the 5-litre container greenhouses. When growing in coco fibre, the growing programme involves adjusting the pH of the solution and adding an enzyme product such as Acti-Vera, with Alg-A-Mic as a complement. Prepare your solution just before use, then rinse the sprayer with clean water so the nozzle does not clog.
📅 Throughout the growing programme
In the range's feeding schedule, Alg-A-Mic is not used at the cutting stage: it starts with growth, at 2 ml per litre, and keeps that dose for the first two weeks of flowering. It then goes up to 3 ml in the third and fourth weeks, then to 4 ml in the fifth and sixth weeks, when the fruits are swelling, before dropping back to 2 ml at the end of the cycle. The schedule provides for it on a light compost, on a peat-free compost and on coco fibre, lightly fertilised grow media that you feed through watering. On an already rich compost such as All-Mix, the schedule does without it, and you then keep it for plants going through a cold snap, an excess of fertiliser or transplanting.
🐟 Algae and aquaponics
Alg-A-Mic is dosed for watering and spraying crops, not for water where fish, bacteria and plants live together, so you should not pour it into the pond. Its low potassium content does not meet the most common need of a system, where potassium is the limiting element and has to be topped up in quantity. In the circuit, that role falls to potassium bicarbonate, which also raises the pH, and yellowing of young leaves is corrected with chelated iron, kept at around 2 mg/L.
Alg-A-Mic keeps its place around the system. In the nursery, it supports seedlings raised in coco coir pots before they go into the grow bed; rinse the base of the pots with clean water when you place them there. It is also used for the pots and soil containers around your setup, and for the plant loop of a decoupled aquaponics system, that separate solution which receives the fish water without returning it to the pond. The article which fertiliser to use in aquaponics presents the supplements that are compatible with fish.
