Filter cleaning without puddles under the cabinet
The EHEIM replacement tap and fittings for external filters replace worn connection parts without changing the filter or the pipes. The shut-off tap suits the ecco, ecco comfort and eccopro with a 12/16 mm pipe. Quick-release fittings are available in 12/16 and 16/22 mm, the sleeve in 25/34 mm.
An external filter lives to the rhythm of its cleaning: you disconnect it, separate the hoses, open it, then put everything back in place. Each time, the connecting parts are put under stress. A tap that no longer shuts off completely, a quick-release fitting with a cracked nut or a damaged sleeve is enough to turn routine maintenance into a puddle under the cabinet. These genuine EHEIM parts replace the worn components of four common setups, without changing either the filter or the hoses.
🔧 Four parts, four uses
The shut-off tap is the complete part fitted to the outlet of the ecco (2231, 2233 and 2235), ecco comfort (2232, 2234 and 2236) and eccopro 130, 200 and 300 filters. It connects to the 12/16 mm pipe and lets you cut off the water before disconnecting the filter. When closed, it keeps the pipes full, so that when restarting the filter primes much more easily. Its lever is operated by hand, and its open or closed position can be read at a glance.
The quick-release fittings are the disconnect parts of EHEIM's InstallationSET 1 and 2, in 12/16 mm (4004300 and 4004310) or 16/22 mm (4005300 and 4005310). They split the pipe in two and reconnect it without tools, so you can take the filter out without touching the fittings glued to the tank. A cracked part, or one whose nut no longer tightens, can be replaced on its own, without buying the whole kit again. Finally, the connection sleeve joins the 25/34 mm pipe to the classic 2250 filter and the classic 1500XL (2260).

A petroleum jelly designed for aquarium seals
The seals on a tap or fitting last much longer when they are greased at every clean. The EHEIM Vaseline in a 5 g tube is designed for seals that come into contact with aquarium water, and a small dab is enough for several parts. Applied in a thin layer on O-rings, it makes reassembly easier and stops the rubber from drying out and cracking.
Turn off the water before separating a fitting
Always close the taps, or pinch the pipes, before separating a fitting. Keep a towel under the filter during the operation, as there is always a little water left in the pipes, even with the taps closed.
If your eccopro 200 filter, installed under a 200-litre aquarium and cleaned every 2 months, has a shut-off tap that leaks at the lever, every clean ends with a mop. The replacement tap goes in place of the old one in a few minutes, with the filter unplugged: remove the pipe from the old tap, detach the tap from the filter, fit the new one and reconnect the pipe. When you restart, open it slowly to bleed the air out of the circuit, and take the opportunity to clean the inside of the pipes with a flexible cleaning brush.
💧 Maintaining the fittings
Seals and moving parts last far longer when you look after them a little. Each time you clean the filter, rinse the fittings with clean water to remove deposits, check that the seals are neither cracked nor crushed, and grease them lightly. Avoid mineral-oil-based greases that are not intended for aquarium use, as they can make the rubber swell and pollute the water. Pipes deserve the same attention: a pipe that has hardened or yellowed with age holds less securely on its fittings, and should be replaced cut to the exact length.
In aquaponics, an external filter sometimes serves as the biological filter for a small indoor system. The quick-release fittings and the shut-off tap then let you take the filter out for cleaning without draining the pipes or losing the prime in the circuit, and so keep the bacterial colony in good condition. The article on maintaining your aquaponic system in summer explains how to clean a filter without losing its bacterial flora.
These parts are made by EHEIM for the models listed. Before ordering, check the name or number of your filter, printed on its head or on its rating plate, as well as the pipe diameter, often printed on the pipe itself or given in the instructions. If you are unsure between two references, compare the photograph of the worn part with that of each variant, and if you are missing the complete tap from another filter, the EHEIM shut-off taps for pipes can be fitted to any pipe of the same diameter.
