Spare threaded nozzle for EHEIM universal or compactON pumps
The original EHEIM threaded connectors join the pipe to the inlet or outlet of universal and compactON pumps. A cracked connector or damaged thread can be replaced without changing the pump.
Five models, from G1/8 to G1 1/4, depending on the pump number.
The summary
- Which nozzle: depending on the pump number.
- The threads: G1/8, G3/8, G3/4, G1 and G1 1/4.
- Fitting it: by hand, no tools needed.
- Why keep a spare: to fix a leak straight away.
A leak repaired in a few minutes, without replacing the pump
The EHEIM threaded replacement connectors link the hose to the suction or outlet of universal and compactON pumps. They replace a split connector or a damaged thread without changing the pump. There are 5 models, from G1/8 to G1 1/4, to be chosen according to the 4-digit number on the rating plate. Fitting is done by hand.
On an EHEIM universal or compactON pump, the hose does not connect directly to the pump body: it fits onto a threaded nozzle, screwed into the intake or outlet port. This small part is subject to repeated tightening, to the dismantling involved in maintenance and, sometimes, one squeeze too many with the pliers. A damaged thread or a cracked nozzle will leak, or let the hose come off. These genuine EHEIM nozzles replace the worn part without your having to replace the pump.
🔩 Five nozzles, five families of pumps
Each connector matches a specific thread, and therefore a family of pumps. The G1/8 is the outlet connector of the universal 300 (1046). The G3/8 fits the universal 300, 600 and 1200 (1046, 1048 and 1250). The G3/4 fits the universal 2400 and 3400 (1260 and 1262). On the compactON side, the G1 fitting screws onto the inlet or outlet of the compactON 2100 and 3000 (1030 and 1031), for 19/27 mm pipe, and the G1 1/4 fits the compactON 5000 (1032), for 25/34 mm pipe.
The 4-digit number is on the rating plate of your pump: it is what lets you choose with confidence. If in doubt, compare the worn part with the photograph of each nozzle, or measure the diameter of the pipe already in place. The outlet measures 11 mm in diameter on the universal 300, 13 mm on the universal 600 and 1200, and 18 mm on the universal 2400 and 3400.
Tighten by hand, never with pliers
The thread is easily damaged by pliers or a wrench. Hand-tightening is enough; if the nozzle still leaks, take it off, clean both threads and screw it back on straight.
🔧 Changing the nozzle
Unplug the pump and lift it out of the water before doing anything. Remove the pipe, dipping it in hot water for a few seconds if it sticks to the nozzle, then unscrew the old nozzle by hand. Clean the pump's thread with a small brush to remove limescale and deposits. Then screw the new nozzle on by hand, straight on its axis, as far as it will go, push the pipe back on and check it is watertight by switching the pump back on. A pipe that has hardened or split at its end will leak even on a new nozzle: trim a few centimetres off before refitting it.
A double tap for disconnecting without draining the pipe
The JBL quick-connect double tap, fitted on the pipe next to the pump, lets you shut off the water on both sides and then disconnect the pump in one movement. You can change the nozzle or clean the pump without draining the pipe or reprising the circuit. It is available for 12/16 and 16/22 mm pipes.
Take an EHEIM universal pump 1200 installed in the filtration tank of a 600-litre system, with a 13 mm delivery pipe running to the grow beds. After 2 years of regular cleaning, the delivery nozzle cracks: the pump leaks into the tank and the flow reaching the plants drops. The G3/8 nozzle gets it working again in a few minutes, for a fraction of the price of a new pump. The compactON pumps are repaired in the same way, with the G1 or G1 1/4 fitting depending on the model.
🌱 In aquaponics
In aquaponics, the pump runs day and night, all year round, and the whole system often depends on it: if the pipe comes loose, water no longer reaches the plants and the fish eventually run short of oxygen. Keeping a spare fitting next to the pump lets you repair it without waiting for a delivery. The guide to building your own aquaponic system covers the choice of pump and pipes in detail, and the article on common mistakes in aquaponics reminds you to check your pumps regularly.
