Orgatrex is Biotabs' organic liquid fertiliser, rated NPK 5-1-5 and made from alfalfa, molasses, vinasse and rock dust, with no animal products. It is added at 5 ml per litre at every watering, from transplanting to harvest, for your vegetables in pots, containers or soil and your young plants in small pots.
The summary

- Watering can dosage: 5 ml per litre of water, at every watering, from planting to harvest.
- For which crops: vegetables, herbs and flowers, in pots, tubs or in the ground.
- In aquaponics: for plants in small pots and containers, never in the fish water.
A plant-based fertiliser to add to the watering can, from planting to harvest
Biotabs' Orgatrex is a liquid organic fertiliser, NPK 5-1-5, made from alfalfa, molasses, vinasse and rock dust, with no animal products. At 5 ml per litre at every watering, it takes over from Startrex until harvest. The 1 L bottle makes up 200 litres, the 5 L container around 1,000, for soil and never a pond.
A vegetable grown in a pot or trough quickly exhausts the reserves in its compost: after a few weeks, it can no longer find enough nitrogen for its leaves or potassium for its fruit. Orgatrex puts these two elements back within reach in liquid form, at every watering, from the plant's establishment through to the last harvests. Its NPK 5-1-5 analysis favours nitrogen and potassium, with a little phosphorus, and comes with trace elements, so you can feed your crops without changing bottle throughout the season.
🌾 Alfalfa, molasses and rock
The formula combines alfalfa meal, rich in nitrogen and trace elements, molasses and vinasse, two sugary residues of sugar production that supply potassium, rock dust and silicon oxide. No animal product or by-product goes into it, which sets Orgatrex apart from organic fertilisers based on feather, blood or bone meal. Zinc, copper, manganese, cobalt, molybdenum, sulphur, sodium, boron and iron complete the analysis. The ingredients are approved by the inspection body Control Union, the fertiliser is certified 100% organic, and it is permitted in organic farming for all crops.
5 ml per litre
One teaspoon per litre of water, at every watering.
The whole cycle
The same dose in growth and flowering, right up to harvest.
Two days
A prepared solution keeps for two days in a cool place, stirred before use.
🍅 In the vegetable garden and in pots
For a 10-litre watering can, pour in 50 ml of Orgatrex, mix and water at the base, without wetting the foliage. Potted tomatoes, peppers and aubergines benefit from it as soon as fruit set begins, when their fruits need potassium, while lettuces, chard and herbs in containers keep a deep green foliage. In open ground, it complements a base dressing of compost during the months of strong growth. As the nitrogen is in organic form, it is the micro-organisms in the compost that mineralise it and make it available to the plant: a living grow medium, watered regularly, therefore makes better use of each application than a compost that dries out between waterings.
Worm compost at the base, Orgatrex through the watering can
If you are potting on vegetables for the season, first mix a portion of worm compost into the potting compost, which provides organic matter already rich in micro-organisms. Orgatrex, added afterwards with each watering, finds in this grow medium the microbial life that converts its organic nitrogen into nitrate. You thus get a base fertiliser and a liquid feed that complement each other, with no synthetic mineral fertiliser.
A diluted solution that keeps for two days
Prepare only the amount you need for the day: a diluted solution keeps for just two days in a cool place, as the sugars in the molasses ferment. The concentrate keeps best with the cap on, in a cool place and protected from frost, and should be shaken before each dose to resuspend the alfalfa and rock particles.
🐟 Outside the fish circuit
In a coupled aquaponic system, the fish, the biofilter bacteria and the plants share the same water, and everything you pour into it passes through the gills before reaching the roots. Orgatrex is formulated for soil, where soil micro-organisms mineralise its nitrogen; in a pond, its organic matter, sugars included, would add to what the waste and feed already supply, and its decomposition would use up the oxygen the fish need. So do not pour it into your pond, or into the grow beds that receive the fish water. The article which fertiliser to use in aquaponics details what suits the system.
Orgatrex nevertheless has its place around an installation. The FAO guide advises raising plants in a nursery and transferring them to the grow beds only at least two weeks after the first true leaves appear: during this period, your tomato or courgette seedlings in pots of compost can receive Orgatrex like any vegetable garden plant. It also feeds the potted crops that often surround an aquaponic greenhouse. Finally, in a decoupled system, where the fish water flows in one direction only to an independent growing loop, the plants' nutrition is corrected without touching the pond; this loop nonetheless remains a soilless water circuit, better served by a soluble mineral fertiliser than by a formula designed for the life of the compost.
In water containing fish, the deficiencies that come up most often involve iron, potassium and calcium, and they can be corrected with compatible products. The New Mexico State University guide recommends adding 2 mg/L of DTPA chelated iron every 3 weeks, a role filled by 11% DTPA chelated iron, and raising the pH towards 7 by alternating calcium hydroxide and potassium hydroxide, which supplies both of these elements at the same time. An iron test tells you when to renew the dose rather than doing it blindly.
🗓️ A season with one bottle
At the rate of one feeding watering a day on a few pots, the 1 litre bottle makes up 200 litres of solution, enough to see a balcony of tomatoes and herbs through a good part of the season. The 5 litre container, which makes up 1,000 litres, is better suited to a vegetable garden in containers, an unheated greenhouse or a bed of vegetables in open ground. Between seasons, store your concentrate in a cool, frost-free room with the cap tightly closed, and shake it thoroughly when you start again. If your plants spend a summer in pots on a hot terrace, do not hesitate to water more often with plain water between feedings: a compost kept moist keeps active the micro-organisms that release the nitrogen in Orgatrex.
🥥 Coco fibre and Bactrex
Orgatrex can also be used on coco coir, a medium that holds almost no fertiliser reserve. For the first 10 days after planting, you water each pot with the same solution of 5 ml per litre, then carry on at the same dose at every watering. The compost or coir will first have received the Startrex organic soil improver, which establishes the microbial life responsible for releasing the nitrogen from Orgatrex.
At repotting
25 g of Startrex per 5 litres of compost or coco fibre.
At planting
20 ml of Orgatrex and 1 g of Bactrex in 500 ml of water, for one plant.
At every watering
5 ml of Orgatrex per litre, right up to the final harvests.
Orgatrex also mixes with the bacteria and Trichoderma Bactrex from the same range. For one planting, dilute 20 ml of Orgatrex and 1 g of Bactrex in 500 ml of water, then pour the 500 ml at the base of a single plant, all at once. The fertiliser feeds the young plant while the micro-organisms colonise the rootball, and the solution should be used within 6 hours, while the bacteria are still active.
