JBL ProNovo Bel fry food, liquid or powder
JBL ProNovo Bel foods feed the fry of all aquarium species. Fluid, an ultra-fine liquid, suits fry of 2 to 5 mm, then Grano Baby, a powder in three grain sizes, takes over from 5 to 20 mm.
Both contain 38% protein, based on salmon, artemia and krill.

Liquid then powdered food for fry from 2 to 20 mm, all species
A fry that has just absorbed its yolk sac must find food quickly, yet an ordinary flake, even crushed, is still too big for its mouth. ProNovo Bel foods are formulated for these first weeks. Here you will find them in two forms that follow one another as your fry grow.
🐟 Liquid or powder
ProNovo Bel Fluid is an ultra-fine homogenate, that is, a food ground very finely and suspended in a liquid, which you dose with the dropper bottle. It is aimed at fry of 2 to 5 mm, for whom even the finest powder is still too coarse. ProNovo Bel Grano Baby takes over from 5 to 20 mm, with three 10 ml sachets of granules of different sizes and a measuring spoon. You move from one sachet to the next as your fry's mouths grow, which avoids giving them granules they cannot swallow.
Fry of 2 to 5 mm
They receive Fluid, dosed drop by drop into the water.
Fry of 5 to 20 mm
They move on to Grano Baby, starting with the finest grain.
All species
Both forms suit the fry of livebearers and egg-layers alike.
Watertight pouches
Each sachet stays sealed against air and light until it is opened.
Isolate the brood in a floating breeding trap
If you are raising a brood in the main tank, install a 3-in-1 floating breeding box at the same time. This small floating tank with a divider sits in the aquarium water, which keeps the fry in the same water and at the same temperature as the adults. The young stay safe from the larger fish, and you dose Fluid or Grano Baby into a small volume where every fry gets its share.
The two foods that your fry receive share the same analysis: 38% protein, 6% fat, 4% fibre and 7% ash. Their recipe is based on salmon meal, brine shrimp, present at 10%, shrimp meal and krill meal, with cereal flours, wheat germ and spirulina added. Grano Baby also contains spinach and Mediterranean herbs, and this powder is enriched with vitamins A, D3, E and C.
🍽️ Little and often
A fry has a tiny stomach and grows quickly: it needs several small meals rather than one large one. Give 3 to 4 meals a day, each limited to what your fry will eat in a few minutes, starting with a very small amount. Particles that stay at the surface or settle on the bottom after a few minutes signal an overly generous meal, and you then reduce the next one.
The choice also depends on the species. Livebearers, such as guppies or platies, give birth to fully formed fry, whereas egg-laying species, such as tetras, produce much smaller larvae, which first live off the reserves of their yolk sac. To decide, measure a fry against a ruler placed on the glass and refer to the ranges of 2 to 5 mm and 5 to 20 mm.
A fry tank fills up with waste quickly, because every leftover breaks down in a small volume of water. Remove any visible excess from the bottom, change a small part of the water often, and keep a gentle filtration that will not suck in your young fish. Water that turns cloudy often signals overfeeding, as the article on understanding and correcting cloudy water explains.
🌱 In aquaponics
In an aquaponic system, breeding your fish lets you renew the stock without buying more, particularly with prolific species such as guppies, platies or tilapia. The fry are kept separately, in a breeding box or a small tank connected to the system, until they can join the adults without risk of being eaten. The guide to raising tilapia in aquaponics presents the benchmark species for these systems.
