Fine sinking granules for guppies, platies and mollies of 3 to 10 cm

These fine pellets feed guppies and the other livebearing fish of the poeciliid family, such as platies, mollies and swordtails, from 3 to 10 cm. They contain 36% protein and 5% fat, and spirulina makes up 18% of the recipe. The pellet sinks through the water column instead of staying at the surface, which changes the way you judge the end of a meal.

🐟 A sinking pellet

As nothing is left floating, you do not judge the ration by what remains at the surface: you watch your fish take the pellets as they pass through the water column, then look at the bottom of the tank a few minutes later. The guide to quantity, however, does not change: give what is eaten completely within a few minutes, 1 to 2 times a day, and reduce the next portion if grains remain visible on the substrate.

For your adult fish

They receive 1 to 2 feeds a day, fully eaten within a few minutes.

For growing juveniles

They receive 3 to 4 small feeds a day, each smaller than an adult's meal.

Once the tub is opened

Close it again after each feed and store it somewhere dry, away from light.

The two measurements that follow the ration

Two drop tests are enough to adjust the ration day to day. The ammonium test tells you what your fish are excreting, and the nitrite test tells you whether your filter is converting that load as it arrives. Run both after every increase in ration, and you can correct the dose before the water turns cloudy.

🌿 Spirulina and prebiotic fibres

The recipe combines a plant source, spirulina at 18%, with animal sources, namely salmon meal, shrimp meal and krill meal, supplemented with cereal flours, wheat germ and potato flakes. It also contains dietary fibres, including apple fibre, which your fish cannot digest and which feed the beneficial bacteria in their gut: this is what makes it a so-called prebiotic food. Finally, the recipe is enriched with vitamins A, D3, E and C.

The lid of the tub has a click dispenser: turn the tub upside down and press the lid, and each time you release the same small amount of pellets. This repeatable action keeps the ration identical from one meal to the next, whoever is feeding the tank, and the tub stays closed between feeds, which protects the pellets from moisture. Count the doses your fish need in the first week, then stick to that number.

🔄 The ration and nitrogen

What you feed stays in the tank in one form or another. Your fish excrete ammonium, the filter bacteria convert it into nitrite and then into nitrate, and it is these nitrates that your plants take up. In an aquaponic aquarium, this food is therefore the nitrogen source for the whole system, and the area you can cultivate is set by the ration.
