Small submersible utility pump for transferring water, stirring a tank or feeding a fountain
A small pump gets used every day in a growing workshop: it fills a watering can, transfers a solution from one tank to another, stirs a reservoir while the fertiliser dissolves, or runs an indoor fountain. This 300 L/h submersible water pump was designed for these uses: it fits in the palm of your hand, at 42 mm wide by 58.5 mm long and 46 mm high, and uses only 3.8 W. You place it at the bottom of the water, push a pipe onto its outlet, and it starts as soon as you plug it in.
💧 Low intake and adjustable flow
The intake grilles are on the sides of the body, level with the base, which allows the pump to empty a container almost completely before it loses prime. A regulator on the front reduces the flow when you want gentle circulation, for example for a fountain that must not splash. The motor and its rotor are housed in a sealed casing, designed to stay permanently submerged, and anti-vibration pads steady it on the bottom. The outlet is a 13 mm outside diameter nozzle, onto which a flexible pipe with a 12 mm inside diameter fits.
The pump always stays underwater
This pump works only when submerged: out of the water, its rotor wears out within moments. Unplug it as soon as the level drops below the intake grilles, and do not use the pump in water above 35 °C. Connect it to a socket protected by a residual current device of 30 mA or less, and always unplug it before putting your hands in the water.
📐 300 L/h: at what height?
The flow rate of 300 litres per hour applies at zero head, when the water comes out level with the pump. The higher the pipe outlet, the lower the flow rate, until it drops to nothing at 50 cm above the pump. This small pump can therefore feed a container at the same level, a little lower, or a tray sitting just above the reservoir. For example, a 10-litre bucket on the floor fills in a few minutes from a neighbouring reservoir, whereas a sink 80 cm up is out of reach. To lift the water higher, towards gutters or a grow bed, the 600 L/h submersible water pump delivers up to 0.8 m.
Decanting
You transfer a nutrient solution from a bucket to a reservoir placed beside it, without lifting or tipping the container.
Water circulation
Placed in a reservoir, it mixes the water while you dissolve a fertiliser or adjust the pH.
The fountain
It feeds a small indoor fountain or a decorative jet, with a flow rate that you reduce at the front.
For emptying a reservoir, the version with a pipe
If you are buying this pump to change the solution in a hydroponic reservoir, choose the drain kit with 2 m of pipe instead, which combines the same pump with a black pipe already fitted to its outlet. You can then empty a 100-litre tank in about half an hour, with the outlet at floor level, without hunting for the right pipe diameter. The opaque pipe can also stay in place next to the reservoir without algae developing in it.
🐟 A service pump in aquaponics
In an aquaponic system, this pump does not replace the circulation pump, which must pass the whole volume of the pond through the grow beds at least once an hour. It is, however, useful for all the jobs around it: drawing water from the pond to water the vegetable garden, since this nitrate-rich water feeds the plants, or running a small demonstration bed whose growing tray sits just above. When you correct the pH, it also stirs the bucket of system water in which you dilute the pH adjuster before pouring it back in slowly, the method set out in the guide to regulating pH in aquaponics. That way you keep it close to hand, next to your tanks, as a utility pump.
🧽 Maintenance
Every 1 to 2 months of use, unplug the pump, remove its front cover and carefully take out the rotor. Wash the whole assembly in lukewarm water, removing any limescale deposits, then brush the side intake grilles with a toothbrush, because a deposit on these grilles reduces the flow before you notice it. Then reassemble the parts in reverse order. The cable cannot be replaced: if it is damaged, the whole pump must be replaced. After running a nutrient solution, a minute of operation in clean water stops the salts from drying on the rotor.
