Fertiliser kit for coco fibre, from growth to harvest
A hydroponics growing programme on coco fibre is built around a growth fertiliser NPK 4-0-5 and a bloom fertiliser NPK 1-6-4. The 500 ml kit adds a nitrogen-free end-of-bloom fertiliser and a 25 g sachet of powdered pH-, while the 1 L and 5 L sets bring together both coco fertilisers for large reservoirs.
The summary
- What you receive: coco growth fertiliser, coco bloom fertiliser, and coco late-bloom fertiliser in 500 ml with 25 g of powdered pH- in the kit, or the two coco fertilisers in 1 L or 5 L in the bundles.
- The programme: both coco fertilisers together throughout the full cycle, then the nitrogen-free fertiliser for the final 12 to 13 days.
- What it covers: approximately 200 litres of growth solution with the kit, 400 litres with the 1 L bundle, and 2,000 litres with the 5 L bundle.
- Safety: the pH- and the growth fertiliser should be handled with gloves and eye protection.
Growth and flowering fertiliser for coco fibre, in a 500 ml kit or in larger quantities
This kit contains the complete programme for growing in coco coir, from first root to harvest. It brings together the coco growth fertiliser NPK 4-0-5, the coco bloom fertiliser NPK 1-6-4, and the nitrogen-free late-bloom fertiliser NPK 0-6-5, each in a 500 ml bottle, along with a 25 g sachet of powdered pH-. In a single box you therefore have the three fertilisers used in succession throughout the growing cycle, plus the corrector to adjust your solution. It is aimed at growers who are new to coco coir cultivation, or who want to trial this programme before committing to larger formats.
Coco fibre locks up some of the calcium in the solution, which is why a standard hydroponic fertiliser used with it often causes deficiencies in young leaves. Both fertilisers in this programme compensate for this effect: the grow bottle contains 5% calcium and the bloom bottle contains 3% magnesium and 5% sulphur. They are always added together, separately into the water, and only their ratio changes from one stage to the next. You therefore need no additional calcium and magnesium supplements.
🥥 The programme stage by stage
At the first roots, use 0.5 ml per litre of each fertiliser, then 1 ml per litre at the first true leaves. During growth, the grow bottle increases to 2.5 ml per litre with 1 ml of bloom, then to 3 ml with 2 ml at pre-flowering. In flower, the ratio reverses, with 1.5 ml of grow to 3 ml of bloom. Conductivity moves from 0.3 to 0.6 mS at the start up to 1.4 to 2.2 mS in flower, and it should be measured once the pH has been corrected.
Taking over from the powdered pH- sachet
The 25 g sachet covers the initial preparations of the cycle. Going forward, the liquid pH adjuster is dosed drop by drop, with no prior dissolving, which makes small corrections to a reservoir of a few tens of litres simpler than with the powder. Add it after the two coco fertilisers, as these themselves alter the pH, and measure after each addition, aiming for 5.5 to 6.5 during growth and 6.4 to 6.8 during flowering.
During the final 12 to 13 days, the two coco fertilisers give way to the end-of-flowering bottle, which is used alone at 5 ml per litre. Deprived of nitrogen, the plant draws on the reserves in its older leaves, which gradually yellow as the flowers and fruits complete their ripening. A 48-hour flush before and after this phase clears accumulated salts from the grow medium, and the flushing solution makes this process more effective. Harvest takes place 2 days after the final feed.
Handle pH- powder with gloves and eye protection
The pH- powder is urea phosphate, which forms a highly acidic solution when dissolved and can cause severe skin burns and eye damage. Wear gloves and eye protection, always dissolve the powder in a large volume of water, and rinse thoroughly in the event of contact. The growth bottle is also classified as hazardous to eyes. Keep the kit out of reach of children, in a dry location and away from flammable materials.
Growth, 500 ml
NPK 4-0-5 with 5% calcium, from 0.5 to 3 ml per litre depending on the growth stage.
Floraison, 500 ml
NPK 1-6-4 with magnesium and sulphur, 0.5 to 3 ml per litre depending on the growth stage.
Late bloom, 500 ml
NPK 0-6-5 with no nitrogen, at 5 ml per litre during the last 12 to 13 days.
pH- powder, 25 g
1 g dissolved in 5 to 6 litres, added in small amounts until the target pH is reached.
📊 What the kit covers
At the growth dose of 2.5 ml per litre, the growth bottle prepares 200 litres of solution, and the bloom bottle approximately 165 litres at 3 ml per litre. The end-of-bloom bottle covers 100 litres at 5 ml per litre, and the pH- sachet prepares 125 to 150 litres of acidic solution at 1 g per 5 to 6 litres, of which each correction uses only a portion. This is the quantity needed for one cycle over a few coco fibre pots or a small flood-and-drain table. For a larger growing area, the 1 L and 5 L sizes take over.
🧴 Large-format bundles
The 2 x 1 L and 2 x 5 L packs bring together the coco grow fertiliser and the coco bloom fertiliser in the same format, for a setup that goes beyond a few pots. At 2.5 ml per litre, a 1 L grow bottle makes up 400 litres of solution, and a 5 L bottle around 2,000 litres, enough to run a flood-and-drain table or several coco fibre tanks throughout an entire season. The late-bloom fertiliser and the liquid pH adjuster can then be chosen to match your reservoir size, and each pack costs less than buying the two bottles separately.
🍅 Suitable crops
The programme is suitable for all crops grown in coco coir, pure or mixed with perlite, whether in pots or a flood-and-drain table, with tap water or reverse-osmosis water. Tomatoes, peppers, strawberry plants and flowering plants benefit the most, as the programme supports them from flowering through to ripening. It is not, however, suitable for organic growing, nor for the water of a system containing fish. If you grow organically, the organic fertiliser kit meets that need.
📦 The kit and how to store it
The box measures 23 x 16.9 x 7.7 cm and weighs 2.1 kg. The liquid fertilisers keep for 5 years after opening, stored upright and tightly sealed, and the pH- sachet also keeps for 5 years after opening, properly resealed, in a dry place and out of reach. The box works out cheaper than buying the three fertilisers separately, and lets you test the programme before investing in the larger formats.
