This liquid organic fertiliser with an NPK 0-0-4 formula is added directly to water containing fish. It supplies the potassium and chelated trace elements that fish waste does not provide, without destabilising the biofilter. Made in France, it is approved for use in organic farming.

The summary

  • What you receive: a bottle of organic liquid fertiliser 0-0-4, in 500 ml, 1 L, 5 L, or 10 L.
  • The dose: 0.5 ml per 10 litres of water, every day, once your crops are established.
  • What it supplements: the potassium and trace elements that the mineralisation of fish waste does not provide.
  • How to choose: this one can be added to water containing fish; a growth fertiliser cannot.

Potassium and chelated trace elements to add to water that houses fish

This organic liquid fertiliser is designed for water that contains fish. Its NPK 0-0-4 formula provides neither nitrogen nor phosphorus, as both elements are already supplied by the mineralisation of fish waste. It supplements what your fish cannot provide, potassium and chelated trace elements, without disturbing the micro-organisms in the biofilter.

🐟 The hydroponics fertiliser and the fish

A hydroponics fertiliser supplies its nitrogen in the form of concentrated mineral salts, nitrates and often a proportion of ammonium. In a fish-free reservoir, that is exactly what is needed. In water that houses fish, ammonium is precisely the form that the biofilter bacteria oxidise into nitrite and then into nitrate, so adding it by the bottle increases the load your filter already has to nitrify from the fish waste. The nitrogen cycle describes this conversion step by step.

What the fish provides

The mineralisation of waste releases nitrogen and phosphorus, the elements plants consume most.

Both to keep an eye on

Potassium is supplied only sparingly through food, and iron precipitates as soon as pH exceeds 7.

Trace elements

Iron, manganese, zinc, copper and boron are chelated and therefore readily available to plants.

Measure iron and potassium levels before dosing

Yellowing leaves can have several causes. The iron test, which detects from 0.02 mg/L, confirms or rules out the most common deficiency. The potassium test covers the one that fish food rarely addresses. With both readings in hand, you can adjust supplementation to what your system actually consumes.

💧 Everyday dosing

The dose is 0.5 ml per 10 litres of water, every day, from the moment your crops are established. A 200-litre system therefore receives 10 ml per day, which is just over 3.6 litres over a year. Shake the container before pouring, as the organic matter settles to the bottom between uses, and pour into a well-circulated area. Two limits apply to this dose: the supplement should only be added when a recognised need exists, and the prescribed dose should not be exceeded.

Store the container between 5 and 25 °C

Store the container in a dry place, in its original sealed packaging, at a temperature between 5 and 25 °C. An unheated garden shed is therefore not suitable in winter. The product keeps for 2 years from its production date, and should be stored out of reach of children.

📦 Which size for which volume

The right size is determined by the volume of water actually in circulation, including the fish tank and sump, since the dose is calculated per litre rather than per number of plants. If your system holds 200 litres, you will use up the 500 ml bottle in 50 days and the 1 litre bottle in 100 days, at 10 ml per day. The 5 litre container covers a full season on a 500 litre system, which receives 25 ml per day. The 10 litre container is intended for installations of at least 1,000 litres, where it lasts 200 days, well within its 2-year shelf life.

Two fertilisers from the same manufacturer, two nitrogen sources

Are you torn between these two fertilisers? One is added to water housing fish, the other feeds a nutrient solution reservoir. Three questions separate the two situations.
