This liquid humic acid, extracted from wood, is added to irrigation water to improve soil structure and its capacity to retain water and nutrients. It contains 9% humic acids, 2.2% fulvic acids, and 3.2% potassium, and is dosed at 3 then 4 ml per litre.

It is approved for organic farming and can be used in soil, coco fibre, and hydroponics.

The summary

  • What you receive: a 500 ml or 1 L bottle, or a 5 L container, of liquid humic acid.
  • The role: it retains water and nutrients near the roots and feeds soil life.
  • The dose: 3 ml per litre at first roots, then 4 ml per litre through to pre-flowering.
  • The composition: 9% humic acids, 2.2% fulvic acids, and 3.2% potassium.

Liquid humic substances for a more active growing medium, from rooting through to pre-flowering

Humus is the stable fraction of a soil's organic matter, what remains once dead leaves and roots have finished decomposing. It gives garden soils their dark colour, their smell and their workability, and it is almost always lacking in fresh compost, sandy soil, or a grow bed that has only recently been filled. This product supplies its active compounds in liquid form, as humic substances, which you simply pour into your watering can to enrich a grow medium that is low in organic matter.

🪵 Humates from wood

Unlike most humic acids on the market, which are extracted from lignite or leonardite, this one is obtained from wood ligno-humates, a renewable resource. The dark brown liquid contains 9% humic acids and 2.2% fulvic acids, the lightest and most soluble fraction of humic substances. A further 3.2% soluble potassium oxide is also present. Its pH of 8 is mildly alkaline, which should be taken into account when preparing your solution.

9% humic acids

The large molecules that give structure to the growing medium and retain nutrients around the roots.

2,2% fulvic acids

The smallest, soluble molecules that carry nutrients all the way to the roots.

3.2% potassium

A modest addition of soluble potassium, in oxide form, to supplement that already provided by your fertiliser.

In soil, humic acids bind to clay particles and form aggregates with them, aerating compacted ground and giving structure to sandy soil. Their many negative charges retain calcium, magnesium and potassium, keeping these elements close to the roots rather than letting them leach away with watering, this is what is known as cation exchange capacity. They also serve as a food source for soil bacteria and fungi. You will get the greatest benefit from them in fresh compost, a raised vegetable bed or coco fibre, all of which start out low in humus.

Pairing humates with a beneficial soil fungus

Humic substances feed microbial life, but they do not introduce micro-organisms. Trichoderma powder colonises the roots and finds, thanks to the humates, a more favourable environment in which to establish itself. Apply at 0.1 g per litre when the first roots appear, then a second time during full growth, while the humic acid accompanies every watering through to pre-flowering.

Measure pH after adding

The product is slightly alkaline, with a pH of 8, which means it raises the pH of a poorly buffered solution slightly. In hydroponics, add it before the fertiliser, then measure and adjust the pH last. Wear gloves when handling the concentrate, as it can irritate skin and eyes. Shake the bottle before each use and store it between 5 and 30 °C.

The 500 ml bottle prepares 125 litres of feed solution at 4 ml per litre, the 1 L bottle prepares 250 litres, and the 5 L container around 1,250 litres for a kitchen garden or greenhouse. The product is an authorised fertilising material under marketing authorisation no. 1180294, as a humic substance solution with added potassium. It is approved for use in organic farming under EU regulations 2018/848 and 2021/1165. It keeps for 2 years from manufacture, stored between 5 and 30 °C.

💧 Dosing by growth stage

The 2025 application schedule recommends 3 ml per litre from the appearance of the first roots, on a seedling or cutting, then 4 ml per litre from the first true leaves through to pre-flowering. For a 10-litre watering can, that means adding 30 ml, then 40 ml. Applications then stop during flowering and ripening, when the plant directs its energy towards flowers and fruit. On soil already rich in compost, you can stay at the low rate of 2 ml per litre stated on the label, which is sufficient to maintain soil in good condition.

⚖️ Humic or fulvic

This product and the liquid fulvic acid belong to the same family and are used over the same period, one or the other according to the application chart. Humic acid acts primarily on the soil, its structure and its capacity to retain nutrients, while fulvic acid, which contains a higher concentration of small molecules, acts more directly on the plant itself, its roots and germination. Choose the humic for growing in soil or in containers, and the fulvic for hydroponic growing or seedlings.

🐟 In aquaponics

An aquaponic system has no soil to condition: roots grow in clay pebbles or float directly in water, and organic matter is already supplied by fish waste. Humic acid therefore has no place in the circuit itself, where it would tint the water brown and slightly raise the pH. It does have a role, however, around the system, in soil-filled beds and seedling trays where you raise plants before transferring them, or in a kitchen garden watered with aquarium drain water.
