Juwel EasyFeed automatic food dispenser for aquariums
The Juwel EasyFeed feeds your fish 1 or 2 times a day while you are away, with a 75 ml food reserve.
It fits into the feeding hatch of a Juwel lid, or into an opening cut in the lid of another aquarium using its mounting sleeve.

Battery-powered feeder, 1 or 2 meals a day, housed in the lid
The Juwel EasyFeed dispenses your fish's food once or twice a day, with no screen or app. Its 75 ml reservoir takes flakes, granules and small sticks up to 3 or 4 mm, and it runs on AA batteries, supplied with the unit. It fits into the feeding hatch of Juwel lids, or into an opening cut in the lid of another aquarium, so it stays clear of water splashes. It suits indoor aquariums and absences from a weekend up to 1 or 2 weeks.
🕘 Two-button programming
The EasyFeed has no clock to set: the time you switch it on becomes the time of the first meal. Press the ON/OFF button to start it, a red indicator light confirms this, and a first portion drops straight away, then every 24 hours at the same time. The SET button adds a second meal, dispensed 6 hours after the first, and the indicator light then changes from green to yellow. Switched on at 9 am, the feeder therefore dispenses at 9 am, then at 3 pm if you have chosen two meals. Finally, the M button releases a portion manually, which lets you check the dose before you leave.
One meal a day
This setting suits adult fish and short absences.
Two meals a day
This setting is for young fish, with smaller portions.
Switch the feeder on at the time of the first meal
Because the switch-on time sets the feeding time, a feeder switched on in the evening will feed every evening, sometimes after the lights have gone out, when the fish are no longer eating. So switch it on in the morning, while the light is on. After changing the batteries, the unit must be reprogrammed in the same way.
🧩 Fitting it on the lid
On some Juwel lids, the dispenser opening is pre-cut and closed by a cover, which you simply remove. On another aquarium, you cut an opening in the lid to the size of the supplied mounting sleeve, then insert the sleeve and place the dispenser on top. The sleeve has a small flap that closes the opening when the unit is removed, which stops light from getting through. If the flap on your Juwel lid does not have the slot intended for the dispenser, a set of original flaps with a template is available as a spare part.
An air pump to keep the feed dry
Above a heated tank, humidity eventually clumps the flakes together in the reservoir, and the portions become uneven. The EasyFeed can be connected to an air pump, whose gentle airflow keeps the food dry: the JBL ProAir a60 silent air pump, supplied with its pipe and non-return valve, is enough for this purpose. Your fish then receive the same dose from the first to the last day of your absence.
The amount in each portion is set with the dial on the feeder. Pour the food into the hopper without packing it down, as compacted food drops unevenly, and choose a dry, small-sized food, such as JBL ProNovo Bel flakes or small granules. Run the unit for a few days before you go away, checking whether the whole portion is eaten within a few minutes, then adjust the dial if leftovers fall to the bottom.
While you are away, a reduced ration is better than a full one: a healthy adult fish tolerates it without difficulty for 1 to 2 weeks, whereas excess food decomposes on the bottom and degrades the water with nobody there to step in. Change the batteries before every departure rather than waiting for them to run low, and clean the reservoir at regular intervals. When you return, look at what is left in the reservoir: it is the best guide for adjusting the dose for your next trip.
🌱 In aquaponics
In a small indoor aquaponic system, the feed is the source of the nitrogen that the bacteria convert for the plants. The EasyFeed keeps this supply steady through a weekend or a week's absence, and so spares the crops an interruption in nutrients. The article on aquaponics during the summer holidays details the other preparations to make before you leave. For a larger tank or two different foods, the 75 ml reservoir quickly becomes too small, and the EHEIM TWINfeeder feeder has two 80 ml chambers programmed separately.
