Metal-fibre glove for removing algae from glass and décor
The JBL ProScape anti-algae cleaning glove is woven from fine metal fibres and is worn on the hand, in size S/M or L/XL. It lifts algae from glass, corners, decor, plant leaves and equipment, where a blade or magnet cannot reach. It should be avoided on acrylic and plastics.
This glove is woven from fine metal fibres. You slip it on and then rub the surface, and the algae come away wherever you press. Your hand keeps all its flexibility, so you can reach a corner, the area around a suction tube or a plant leaf.
🪞 Glass panes and corners
A cleaning magnet works well on a large flat surface, but it stops a few centimetres short of the seals, while a blade reaches the corner at the risk of nicking the silicone seal. With the glove, you follow the glass flat, then press a finger into the corner without any sharp tool. Touch also picks up the first film of algae, rough under the fingers and still barely visible, which you can wipe away before it turns into a green haze.
🪵 Decor and equipment
The glove can also be used to clean the decor, roots, stones and plant leaves, as well as technical components and pumps. In aquaponics, this use on equipment is the most helpful, because a strainer, a pipe or a pump housing can be cleaned by hand, in the water, without dismantling anything and without any product. The article on maintaining a grow tower explains in detail how to manage biofilm on this type of equipment.
Safe for acrylic, plastics and seals
Wire wool lifts algae because it scratches anything softer than itself, and this same quality becomes a drawback on certain surfaces. Avoid it on an acrylic tank, which marks permanently, and on the plastic windows and viewing panels of a filter. Keep it away from the soft leaves of delicate plants too, which tear, and never press hard on a silicone seal, even if the glove damages it less than a blade. On these fragile surfaces, a soft cloth is enough.
Complement the glove with a siphon bell
The glove lifts algae off the glass and the decor, but what it loosens then settles on the tank floor. The gravel cleaner bell removes these deposits during the partial water change that follows, along with the sludge trapped between the grains. Both tools work without electricity or chemicals, so a complete maintenance session can be done with them alone.
Rinse the mitt in lukewarm water after each use and leave it to dry out of direct sunlight. Do not put it in the washing machine and do not use detergent, as the residue would end up back in your water the next time you use it. A mitt that starts to shed fibres should be replaced, so that no metal fibres are left in the tank. If algae return faster than before despite regular maintenance, the cause is more likely to be in the water than on the glass, and the phosphate test is the first measurement to take.
🧤 The two sizes
The glove comes in S/M and L/XL, with the same weave, and you should choose a snug fit rather than a loose one. A glove that is too big turns on your hand as soon as you press down, which forces you to grip harder and costs you fingertip precision in the corners. If you are torn between two sizes, take the same size you would for a DIY glove, since it is your fingertips that do the work.
