The Light Mix is a growing compost designed to let you take charge of nutrition. Its fertiliser content, 2 kg of organic NPK 6-3-4 fertiliser per cubic metre, is deliberately light, whereas a general-purpose compost carries the plant for six to eight weeks on its own reserves. This one waits for your first feed, and that is what makes it an ideal grow medium for seedlings and managed cultivation.
🧱 What the bag contains
Composted pine bark
It provides structure, with particles that don't compact and keep air circulating for months.
Coco fibre
It provides water retention and maintains the 450 ml per litre of the mix.
Wood fibre
It lightens the mix and acts as a carrier for Trichoderma harzianum, a beneficial fungus in the root zone.
Perlite
It's an expanded volcanic rock, incompressible. It retains air in the mix even when wet and compacted.
🌱 A compost you control
A nutrient-rich compost makes decisions for you. Its reserves are released at their own rate, independently of the plant's growth stage, and they compound whatever you apply. With a low-fertility grow medium, what the plant receives is what you have added, and you can adjust the formula between growth and flowering. Three values define this compost: a pH of 6, the range at which most elements remain available; a conductivity of 30 mS/m, very low; and a water retention of 450 ml per litre, equivalent to approximately 22 litres of water held per bag.
The low salt content is exactly what young roots need, a rich compost would scorch them, which is why this mix is primarily used for seedlings and cuttings. It is equally suited to container growing with a complete fertiliser, and to improving a border when mixed with existing soil. Fertiliser from the very first watering
Order a complete fertiliser at the same time, as feeding begins from the very first watering. The nutrient content of this compost is deliberately low, so that it is your fertiliser that drives the plant and you can adjust the formula between growth and flowering stages. A pH test is a useful addition, since your irrigation water determines what the plant can actually absorb.
It does not go in a water circuit
This compost is designed for a watered pot, not for a system where water circulates continuously. For a continuous-irrigation pot or a flood-and-drain table, use clay pebbles or coco fibre, which hold up in a recirculating system. An organic compost placed in a water flow releases fine particles, clouds the solution, and ends up in the pump, while losing the very structure that makes it useful in the first place.
🍄 The Trichoderma in the blend
The presence of Trichoderma harzianum is not a decorative selling point. This fungus colonises the root zone and occupies the space that damping-off pathogens would otherwise target, while also helping the plant to access certain nutrients. It works in a moist, well-aerated grow medium at normal temperature, exactly the conditions found in an indoor seedling setup. Two things will harm it: sterilising the compost in an oven or microwave, and applying a systemic fungicide, which makes no distinction between beneficial and harmful fungi. If you are raising your seedlings with this mix, let it do its job and keep treatments for confirmed problems.
📦 The 50-litre bag
Fifty litres is enough to fill around fifty 1-litre pots, or about ten 5-litre pots, which comfortably covers a full season of seedlings for a home gardener. The bag reseals and keeps from one year to the next, provided it stays dry and frost-free, the structure of the mix doesn't break down, though the organic fraction gradually depletes. A compost left for two years in a damp shed will compact and lose some of its water-retention capacity, which can be remedied by mixing in a handful of perlite before use.

A blended compost or a neutral growing support
If water circulates or flows upward in your system, coco fibre is the clear choice: the organic particles in a potting mix break down and end up in the pump. The questionnaire will help you decide in all other cases.
