Staple food in floating pellets for koi, enriched with silkworm
Your koi carp eat every day throughout the warm season, and their staple food makes up most of their ration. This one combines 21% salmon meal, 10% silkworms and 5% krill meal, with wheat germ and yeasts. The food contains 36% protein and 9% fat, a ratio of 4 to 1, suited to a fish that is growing and swims a lot. It is enriched with vitamins A, D3, E and C, with no colourings or preservatives.
🌡️ From 10 to 25 °C
Koi are cold-blooded fish: their digestion follows the water temperature. This food is given when the water is between 10 and 25 °C, from spring to autumn. Above 25 °C, a summer food for pond fish is more suitable; below 10 °C, an easily digestible winter food takes over. Feed 1 to 2 times a day the amount your fish eat in a few minutes. The pellets float, which lets you see what your koi are actually eating and remove any surplus.
Under 10 °C
Switch to an easily digestible winter food.
From 10 to 25 °C
Feed this staple food 1 to 2 times a day.
Above 25 °C
Switch to the summer food, suitable up to 30 °C.
Koi size
The pearls suit fish longer than 15 cm.
Switch to winter feed below 10 °C
When the water temperature drops below 10 °C, the winter food for pond fish takes over, in easy-to-digest sinking sticks. That way your koi stay fed without straining their digestion during the cold.
A surplus that loads the water
Surplus food breaks down on the bottom and raises the ammonium content of the water. Give only what is eaten within a few minutes and remove the rest with a net.
🌱 In aquaponics
In an aquaponic system, the fish feed is the plants' main source of nitrogen: what the koi eat becomes, via the filter, the nitrate that feeds the vegetables. A regular ration, adjusted to the temperature, gives the crops a steady supply of nitrogen. The guide to koi carp in aquaponics details how to run a koi pond linked to crops.
📦 Three sizes for the season
Choose the size according to the amount your koi eat over the season. Take a pond with 5 koi of about 1 kg each: at around 20 °C, a daily ration of roughly 1% of their body weight comes to 50 g per day, split into 1 or 2 meals. The 0.34 kg tub then lasts about a week, which is enough to let them try the food or to feed two or three koi. The 1 kg bag lasts almost 3 weeks, and the resealable 2 kg bag almost 6 weeks. Close the packaging after every meal and keep it dry and out of the light, because air and moisture degrade the vitamins and fats.
