Graduated syringes: 3 to 100 ml
These graduated syringes measure out your concentrated fertilisers, your chelated iron and your pH correctors to the millilitre, and they draw up your test water in drops. They come in seven capacities, from 3 to 100 ml, in sets or individually.
The summary
- What you receive: graduated syringes with a Luer Lock tip, from 3 to 100 ml, in packs of 10 or 5, or individually.
- Which capacity: the one that is just above your dose, so you can read the finest graduation.
- For which liquids: concentrated fertilisers, chelated iron, pH correctors and water sampled for your tests.
- In use: one syringe per product, rinsed with clean water after each dose.
Luer Lock syringes for dosing fertiliser, trace elements and water sampling
A graduated Luer Lock syringe measures liquid to the millilitre. Its tip is threaded: a needle, a nozzle or a small pipe screws onto it and stays in place when you push the plunger. The transparent barrel carries a numbered scale, so you can see the liquid reach the line you want.
📏 Seven syringe capacities
3, 5 and 10 ml
They measure out small volumes, such as a trace element, a pH corrector or test water. They are sold in packs of 5 or 10.
20 and 30 ml
They measure out fertiliser from a small reservoir or a stock solution, in one or two draws.
50 and 100 ml
They draw fertiliser from a reservoir holding several dozen litres. They are sold individually.
Choose the syringe whose capacity is only just above your dose, because the smaller it is, the finer the reading: the 3 ml is marked every 0.5 ml, the 100 ml every 10 ml. To raise the iron content of 100 litres of water by 2 mg per litre, you need 2.7 ml of liquid chelated iron EDDHSA, which the 3 ml syringe draws up in one go. A growth fertiliser dosed at 1.8 ml per litre requires 90 ml for a 50-litre reservoir, measured with the 100 ml syringe.
🐟 Dosing in an aquaponic system
In an aquaponic system, the fish supply most of the nitrogen, and your additions are often limited to iron, potassium and pH correction. Every millilitre added ends up in the fish's water. The syringe also draws the sample for your tests: the drop-based nitrite test requires 2 × 5 ml of water, which the 5 ml or the 10 ml syringe measures without a pipette.
Liquid iron dosed without scales
If you are topping up the iron in your tank, the liquid chelated iron EDDHSA 6% can be drawn up directly with the syringe, with no weighing or dilution. Keep a 3 or 5 ml syringe for it, and you can repeat the same dose at each addition, after measuring with an iron test.
One syringe per liquid
Keep one syringe per product, with its name written on it in marker. Liquid pH- corrector contains nitric and phosphoric acids, which must not meet chelated iron in the same syringe. Rinse each syringe with clean water after use, and wear gloves and goggles when drawing up a pH corrector, as it is classed as corrosive.
