Cartridges and membranes for ARKA myAqua 190, 380 or 400 reverse osmosis units
These replacement parts refresh the compact ARKA myAqua reverse osmosis units rated 190, 380 and 400 L per day: pre-filters, carbon filters, membranes and resin, to be chosen for your model in the selector.
The summary
- What it is: replacement cartridges and membranes for compact reverse osmosis units producing 190, 380 and 400 L per day.
- Which model it suits: a set of 2 pre-filters and one membrane per flow rate for the 190 and the 380, 5 pieces for the 400.
- When to replace: the fine pre-filter every 3 months, the carbon every 6 months, the membrane after 2 years of use.

Pre-filters, carbon, membranes and resin to keep osmosis water pure
A reverse osmosis unit produces pure water as long as its filters retain what they are meant to retain. The pre-filters first stop particles and the chlorine in tap water, then the membrane retains up to 99% of dissolved salts thanks to pores of 0.0001 micron. These parts wear out with the volume produced, and replacing them regularly restores the water quality of the first days. The parts offered here cover the three compact ARKA myAqua reverse osmosis units: those for the 190 and the 380, which share their pre-filters, and those for the 400.
🔍 Which part for which model
The 190 and 380 L per day models, shown on the compact reverse osmosis unit page, use the same 25 cm in-line cartridges with 1/4 inch fittings. Only their membrane differs, since it sets the output of the unit. The 400 L per day model works with four cartridges of its own, plus an optional resin cartridge to polish the water produced even further. Check the number printed on your unit before choosing, because the parts of one model do not fit the other.
190 and 380
The set includes the fine pre-filter and the carbon filter, and the membrane is chosen according to the unit's flow rate.
400
One fine filter, two carbon filters C1 and C2, a membrane and an optional resin.
The membrane
It holds back dissolved salts, and its reference follows the flow rate of the RO unit.
🗓️ The water change schedule
On the 190 and the 380, the 5 micron fine pre-filter is changed after 11,000 litres or 3 months, and the carbon filter after 5,500 litres or 6 months, whichever limit is reached first. The membrane is replaced after 24 months of use. On the 400, the filters are changed after 6 to 12 months at the latest, and the membrane when the quality of the water produced drops. The deciding factor remains measurement: osmosis water that exceeds 50 ppm of dissolved salts signals a worn part.
Measure the KH once the water has been remineralised
Reverse-osmosis water contains almost no carbonates, so its pH becomes unstable until you remineralise it. The KH carbonate hardness drop test tells you how much carbonate your mixture contains before you pour it into the tank. This way you avoid filling an aquaponics tank with water that would let the pH drop within a few days.
The carbon protects the membrane
The carbon filter holds back the chlorine in tap water, which would damage the membrane if it reached it. So never run the reverse osmosis unit without a carbon filter, and replace it when it is due even if the water produced is still good. Also rinse each new cartridge by letting the first water produced run to waste.
♻️ The resin in the 400 model
The resin cartridge fits after the 400's membrane and removes the last traces of silicates, nitrates and other dissolved substances. It contains an equal-parts mix of cationic and anionic resins, which binds the remaining ions and produces water with a conductivity close to 0.1 µS/cm. This level of purity is mainly useful for marine aquariums, where water free of silicates and nitrates is the goal. In aquaponics, you remineralise the osmosis water anyway before adding it to the system, so the reverse osmosis unit alone is usually enough, as explained in the article on pH regulation in aquaponics.
