Distribution ring for 15 or 45 L hydroponic pot
This 21 cm distribution ring spreads the nutrient solution in a fine shower over the clay pebbles in the 15 or 45 L hydroponic pot. It is the original part, sold singly or in packs of 4 to fit out several pots.
The summary
- What you receive: 1 or 4 rings of 21 cm, with their connecting tee.
- Which pot it suits: the 15 or 45 L reservoir hydroponic pot, mains or solar.
- When to replace it: cracked, warped, broken tee or holes blocked despite cleaning.
- What ships to you: a small, light parcel.
Replacement part that waters the clay pebbles of the 15 or 45 L hydroponic pot
This distribution ring is the part that waters the grow medium of the 15 or 45 L reservoir hydroponic pot. Placed on the clay pebbles around the plant, it receives the nutrient solution brought from the reservoir and spreads it as a fine spray through a series of small holes. You replace it when it is cracked, warped or lost, without changing the rest of the circuit, and the pack of 4 fits out the pots of a complete installation in one go, such as the kit of 4 pots connected to a shared reservoir.
The diameter
The ring measures 21 cm in diameter, which lets it surround the base of the plant at a good distance from the stem.
The fitting
A tee fitted with a 10 mm male outlet connects it to the pumping column immersed in the tank.
The material
It is moulded from brown low-density polyethylene, which stays flexible and withstands the constant humidity of the pot.
Compatible pots
The same ring fits the 15 L and the 45 L pot, mains-powered or solar.
💧 The path of the solution
The pot works without a water pump. A small air pump sends air into the lift column sitting in the reservoir, and the rising bubbles carry the solution up with them to the tee of the ring. The solution then flows around the ring and escapes through its holes, before passing through the clay pebbles, wetting the roots and running back down to the reservoir by gravity. Because the ring spreads the flow around its full circumference, the grow medium stays evenly moist, and your roots develop throughout the whole volume of the pot instead of crowding to one side.
Rinsed clay pebbles keep the drilled holes open
Dust from new clay pebbles is the main reason a ring waters poorly, because it settles in the strainer and then in the drilled holes. Rinse the 8 to 20 mm clay pebbles until the water runs clear before putting them in the pot. That way you keep a steady flow all the way round the ring, and you avoid having to take it apart in the middle of a crop.
The solution must not touch the stem
Position the ring so that the solution falls onto the beads, away from the plant's crown. A stem that is watered constantly stays damp at its base, and crown rot can then spread to the whole plant. Check the ring's position after every intervention on the pot, as it moves easily when you handle the grow medium.
🔧 Replacing the ring
Replacement takes a few minutes and needs no tools. Switch off the air pump, lift out the tee from the airlift column, then fit the new ring in its place, following the tee orientation shown in the instructions. The small nipple on top takes the air line, and the 10 mm outlet slots onto the column. All that remains is to lay the ring flat on the clay pebbles around the plant, then switch the pump back on to check that every hole is flowing.
🧽 Clean before replacing
A ring that waters less effectively does not necessarily need replacing. The mineral salts in the solution gradually build up in the holes, and a night's soak in water with white vinegar added is often enough to dissolve them. Then rinse the ring in clean water and run a fine needle through any holes that remain blocked. You should replace it, however, as soon as it cracks, its tee breaks or it no longer holds its circular shape, since the water then no longer spreads evenly around the plant.
