Seedling and cutting pack: growing media and nutrition
This pack contains everything needed to produce already-rooted plants before placing them in a soil-free system: a tray of 24 cubes ready to sow and 150 rockwool cubes for the next stage.
The TriPart nutrition in three 500 ml bottles, the pH adjuster, and the test kit complete the set.
The summary
- What you receive: a tray of 24 germination cubes, 150 rockwool cubes, the TriPart Starter Kit in three 500 ml bottles, the pH adjuster in powder form and a pH test.
- What you do with it: your own rooted seedlings, ready to move into a reservoir pot, an ebb-and-flow table or a gutter system.
- Two supports, two uses: germination cubes for delicate seeds, rockwool for batches and for cuttings.
- The starting dose: a quarter of the growing doses and a pH of 5.8 to 6.2. At this rate, the 500 ml bottles last a long time.
- What comes next: the system that will house your seedlings, chosen according to the number of plants you want to grow at once.
- How it arrives: about 4 kg, a light parcel that can go to a pick-up point.
Growing media, starter nutrition and pH control for raising your seedlings.
All soilless systems share the same requirement: they take plants that are already rooted, never bare seeds. This pack covers the stage before, the one where you lose the most plants and the cheapest one to equip for. Three things govern this stage: a medium that stays moist without becoming waterlogged, very dilute nutrition, and a pH within the useful range. You have all three in the box.
🧱 Two starter supports
The tray of 24 germination cubes arrives pre-moistened: you place the seed, moisten it and wait. These cubes are made of biodegradable organic fibres and can be transplanted as they are, into a slotted basket just as you would into open ground. The 150 rockwool cubes measure 2 x 2 cm and take over for larger batches and for cuttings, where you slide the stem into the slit in the cube. This mineral wool is inert and drains more freely, which makes it more forgiving of slightly generous watering. Wear gloves when separating it dry.
🧪 Feeding young seedlings
The TriPart range splits nutrition across three bottles, and each one carries a colour that avoids mix-ups when dosing. Micro, dark brown, supplies calcium, iron and trace elements: it is the only one of the three used from seedling to harvest. Grow, green, carries the nitrogen and potassium for growth. Bloom, pink, carries the phosphorus and potassium for flowering. You change the proportions through the cycle instead of changing product. The order of mixing matters as much as the dose: Micro first, in the water, then Grow, then Bloom, never one concentrate poured into another.
The tray of 24
These are 24 pre-moistened organic fibre cubes, to be sown as they are and transplanted without pricking out.
Rockwool
These are 150 mineral cubes of 2 x 2 cm, slit on top, for large batches and for taking cuttings.
Nutrition
Three TriPart bottles, Micro, Grow and Bloom, which cover the whole cycle from seedling to harvest.
The check
A pH corrector powder and a drop test, enough to measure and correct from the very first solution.
A damp cube, never soaked
A waterlogged cube deprives the seed of oxygen and makes the collar rot. The right setting is damp, never soaking: a cube that you squeeze should not run with water. It is the leading cause of failure, ahead of temperature and well ahead of seed quality.
A light above the tray as soon as the seedlings emerge
As soon as the first leaves appear, the tray needs strong light, placed a few dozen centimetres above the cubes. In spring, a well-exposed windowsill is enough; for the rest of the year, a light bar from our horticultural lighting range covers the whole length of the tray. It produces sturdy seedlings with firm collars, ready to join their soilless system.
💧 Dose and pH at start-up
A seed carries its own reserve and needs nothing during the first few days. A young root, on the other hand, burns easily in a solution that is too concentrated. Start at a quarter of the growing doses, increase gradually, and aim for a pH of 5.8 to 6.2. The corrector supplied is urea phosphate powder: dissolve it at a rate of 1 g per 5 to 6 litres of water, add this correction solution in small amounts, and wear gloves and goggles, as this product is corrosive. The drop test then gives you the reading, in daylight and against a white background.
🌡️ Germination, warmth and light
Two factors govern how fast seedlings emerge: warmth and light. Warmth comes first, as most vegetable seeds germinate between 18 and 24 °C, and a heat mat under the tray is better than a radiator, which dries out the air. Light only matters once the seedlings have emerged, but it then becomes urgent, otherwise the stems stretch within a few days and never straighten up again. To set up your seed-starting corner, our article on indoor seed-starting space covers the space, light and warmth. The one on germination failures reviews the most common causes, and getting your spring seedlings right gives the calendar.

- 250 gUrea phosphate, dissolved at 1 g per 5 to 6 L of water, then poured in small amounts.
- Drop-based pH test
- 30 ml, range 4.0 to 8.5Around 500 measurements. No calibration, no battery.
- Total weight
- approximately 4 kgLightweight parcel, which can go to a pick-up point.
Managing the start-up
- Target pH
- 5.8 to 6.2Outside this range, the young root cannot take up nutrients, whatever the dose.
- Starting dose
- A quarter of the growing dosesIncrease gradually, judging by how the plants look.
- Mixing order
- Micro, then Grow, then BloomEach one into the water, never one concentrate into another. Rinse the doser between bottles.
- Transplanting guide
- Roots visible beneath the cubeWhite and firm. 10 days for a lettuce, 3 weeks for a tomato.
Safety and handling
- pH- corrector
- Corrosive, category 1BDANGER signal word, H314 and H318 statements. Gloves and goggles when dosing.
- Rockwool
- Mechanical irritantGloves for separating the cubes while dry. Once soaked, they no longer release fibres.
To budget for separately
- Seeds or mother plants
- Your varietiesSeeds or cuttings taken from your own plants.
- Light
- A soft water sourceLight that is too intense dries out a young plant more than it helps it.
- Heat
- Around 20 degreesA heated mat comes in handy in a cool room or for an early start.
- Humidity dome
- A pierced sheet of clear film is enoughUseful for slow-germinating seeds, unnecessary for easy species.
- Rooting hormone
- OptionalDecisive on woody stems, unnecessary on species that root on their own.
- Host system
- A pot or a tableThis pack produces the plants, but it does not take them through to harvest.
