Reusable supports that hold cuttings in propagators and aeroponic systems
In a hydroponic propagator, each cutting passes through the lid and its base remains suspended above a continuously misted solution. You therefore need a support that holds the stem without crushing it, allows moisture and air to circulate around the zone where the roots will form, and does not rot with constant exposure to water. This 5 cm neoprene disc does exactly that. You slide the stem into the slit, adjust the height, then place the disc in the opening of the lid.
🌱 The medium for HydroCloner
The HydroCloner 27 and 72 propagators come fitted with these discs, which hold the cuttings in place without a net pot or grow medium. Neoprene is easier to handle and clean, and introduces no grow medium that could retain moisture against the stems. A HydroCloner 27 requires 27 discs, and the 72 model requires 72. These packs are therefore ideal for replacing damaged discs, preparing a second set while the first batch is rooting, or fitting out another system with 5 cm openings.
In a propagator
The disc sits directly in the lid opening, with the base of the stem above the sprayed solution.
In a net pot
It fits inside a 5.4 cm net pot, in place of a rockwool cube or germination sponge.
In aeroponics
It fits systems with 5 cm openings, such as the aeroponic pot with 5 cm baskets.
Setting up a complete propagator to get started
If you are new to propagation, the HydroCloner cloner combines the tank, pump, spray network, and neoprene discs in a 27- or 72-cutting version. You can then add these packs to prepare a batch in advance. An organic root stimulant added to the reservoir completes the setup during the first 2 weeks.
Position the stem without constricting it
The neoprene grips the stem to hold it in place, but excessive pressure crushes the tissue and hinders root development. Slide the stem into the slot by gently opening the disc slightly, and leave the section that needs to root protruding below the disc. A thick stem is easier to insert by turning it gently rather than forcing it through.
🧽 Cleaning and reuse
Neoprene is a cellular synthetic rubber that does not rot with constant exposure to water. Between batches of cuttings, rinse the discs under clean water to remove root debris and solution deposits, then leave them to dry before storing. A disc that is split to the edge or misshapen should be replaced, as it will no longer hold the stem securely. This is precisely the advantage of these multipacks, which save you from having to buy an entirely new propagator just to replace a handful of worn holders.

A pack of 10 is enough to replace a few holders or fit out a small propagator, while a pack of 50 covers a full HydroCloner 27 with spares.
