Landing net with telescopic handle and soft net, 7.5 to 20 cm wide
A handle that extends changes the way you catch a fish. Folded, it stays short and easy to handle at the edge of a small tank; extended, it reaches the bottom of a deep aquarium without you having to plunge your arm in. The Aquael net combines this telescopic handle with a soft mesh net, designed not to damage the delicate skin of fish, in freshwater and seawater alike.
📐 A rectangular frame
The rectangular frame sits flush against the glass and the base, where a round net leaves a gap. A fish sheltering in a corner therefore has no escape route to the side. Choose the width according to the fish: the 7.5 x 6 cm net suits small species and densely planted tanks, the 10 to 15 cm ones suit most fish in a living-room aquarium, and the 20 x 15 cm one suits the largest. The four largest sizes are supplied to order, with a longer lead time than the 7.5 x 6 cm net.
🌱 In aquaponics
In aquaponics, this net is used first and foremost to catch a fish in a deep tank, without draining the water or putting your arm in between the pipes. This lets you take a closer look at it, move it from one tank to another, or spread the fish out better between your tanks. It is also handy for scooping out leaves, bits of root and floating food waste, or for quickly removing a dead fish: as it decomposes, it releases ammonia, as explained in the guide to the nitrogen cycle in aquaponics. For a large tank or a pond, the telescopic pond net has a much larger net.
A second net to guide the fish
In a planted tank, a lively fish is caught faster with two nets: one stays still in a corner, while the other, which you hold in your free hand, gently herds the fish towards it. A small JBL wide-mesh net of 8 cm plays this herding role, because its mesh lets the water through and it moves quickly between the plants.
