An aquaponic system relies on four functions that run day and night: circulating the water, oxygenating it, filtering it and keeping it at temperature. This collection brings together the equipment for each. Size the water pump to turn over the volume of the fish tank at least once an hour, at the actual pumping head. Choose the air pump according to the depth it must reach, and a battery backup model, such as the Amtra Air System 60 UPS pump, takes over during a power cut.
Filtration runs from mechanical pre-filtration to biological media and, if needed, a UV-C clarifier. Choose the heater according to the total volume: an external heater counts the tank, the filter and the grow beds. On the plant side, towers, NFT channels and RDWC pots hold the crops, and pipework connects it all.
