Organic biostimulant pack: humic and fulvic acids, seaweed
This pack brings together three liquid biostimulants suitable for organic farming: a humic acid, a fulvic acid and a cold-pressed seaweed extract. They are added to your fertiliser: humic acid in soil, fulvic acid in hydroponics and on coco fibre, and the seaweed extract in both cases.
The summary
- What you receive: 1 L of humic acid, 1 L of fulvic acid and 1 L of cold-pressed seaweed extract.
- What it brings: a more living soil, better-absorbed nutrients and plants that cope better with stress.
- The doses: during full growth, 2 ml per litre of fulvic acid for soilless growing or 4 ml of humic acid in soil, with 5 ml of seaweed.
- With your fertiliser: the three products are added to your usual feeding programme, without replacing it.
- How to choose: this pack stimulates; the Trichoderma, Streptomyces and nettle pack protects the roots, the complete organic fertiliser pack feeds.
- How it arrives: a parcel of about 3.8 kg, shipped from France.
Humic acid, fulvic acid and seaweed extract to stimulate your fed crops
This pack brings together three liquid biostimulants of natural origin, each in a 1 L bottle: a humic acid, a fulvic acid and a cold-pressed seaweed extract. None of the three is a fertiliser in the strict sense, since their role is not to supply nutrients in quantity, but to improve the way the soil, the grow medium and the plant retain and absorb them. You add them to your usual fertiliser, from the first-roots stage through to flowering, and all three can be used in organic growing. The manufacturer's application chart allocates them by crop: fulvic acid in hydroponics and on coco fibre, humic acid in soil, one or the other on the same crop, and the seaweed extract in every case. This pack is therefore fully worthwhile for anyone running both a soilless crop and a vegetable garden or pots in soil.
🍂 Two humic substances, two growing media
Humic substances are the stable organic compounds that give a fertile soil its dark colour. The liquid humic acid in the pack contains 9% humic acids and 2.2% fulvic acids, extracted from wood lignohumates. These large molecules bind to soil particles, which improves its structure and its capacity to hold water, and they serve as food for the beneficial fungi and bacteria in the root zone. This is the bottle for crops grown in soil and in pots, where you dose it at 3 ml per litre at the early root stage, then at 4 ml per litre until pre-flowering.
The liquid fulvic acid is the finest and most soluble fraction. Its formula combines 22.4% fulvic acids and 7.9% humic acids, in a liquid with a pH between 7.5 and 8. Fulvic acids form soluble complexes with mineral elements, which stay available to the root instead of precipitating, so your fertiliser inputs are better absorbed. This is the bottle for hydroponics and coco fibre, where the dose is 2 ml per litre in the nutrient solution or watering water, and 3 ml per litre as a foliar spray, from the first roots through to pre-flowering.
🌊 Cold-pressed seaweed extract
The third bottle contains a seaweed extract obtained by cold pressing Ascophyllum nodosum, a brown seaweed from the North Atlantic. Cold pressing preserves the seaweed's natural compounds, trace elements, minerals and growth substances, which help plants cope with stresses such as cold, drought or wind. Use it at 5 ml per litre in the watering water or in the solution, from the first true leaves through to flowering, and at 3 ml per litre as a weekly foliar spray until pre-flowering.
A Trichoderma to make the most of the humic acid
Humic acid feeds the beneficial micro-organisms in the soil, provided they are present. New or sterilised potting compost contains few. Add Trichoderma powder at 0.1 g per litre with the first application: the fungi establish themselves on the roots, the humic acid sustains them at the rate of one application per month, and your compost becomes a living medium.
Correct the pH once the biostimulants have been added
Humic acid has a pH of 8 and fulvic acid a pH of 7.5 to 8, which makes them alkaline concentrates. In hydroponics, where the useful range is narrow, measure the pH of the solution once all the products have been added, not before, then correct it if necessary. A correction made before adding the biostimulants would be thrown off by them. Wear gloves when handling the humic acid concentrate, which can irritate the skin and eyes.
🗓️ From seedling to pre-flowering
The three products are not all used at the same time, and the schedule is best read stage by stage. At the first-roots stage, the humic substance for your crop is used on its own, fulvic acid at 2 ml per litre in hydroponics or on coir, humic acid at 3 ml per litre in soil, because the young plant has no foliage to support yet. From the first true leaves, the seaweed extract comes in at 5 ml per litre, and the humic acid goes up to 4 ml per litre. Both products then accompany your crop up to pre-flowering. Fulvic acid and humic acid stop at this stage, while the seaweed extract continues through flowering. For a successful start to your seedlings, the article on spring seedlings details the conditions for germination.
First roots
Fulvic acid is dosed at 2 ml per litre for soilless growing, or humic acid at 3 ml per litre in soil.
First leaves
The seaweed extract goes up to 5 ml per litre, and the humic acid rises to 4 ml per litre.
Growth
Seaweed extract at 5 ml per litre goes with fulvic acid at 2 ml, or humic acid at 4 ml.
Flowering
Only the seaweed extract stays in the irrigation water, always at 5 ml per litre.
🪴 Soil, coconut fibre or hydroponics
In open ground and in pots, you dilute the humic acid and the seaweed extract in the watering can. Humic acid is used once a month to support soil life, while seaweed extract helps during stressful periods, such as a cold snap, a passing drought or strong wind. On coco fibre as well as in hydroponics, fulvic acid replaces humic acid: you add it with the seaweed extract to the nutrient solution, at the doses in the schedule, measuring the pH after the addition. Fulvic acid turns the solution brown, which is normal and harmless to the roots.
🧴 Three 1 L bottles
The box contains three 1 L bottles: humic acid, fulvic acid and cold-pressed seaweed extract. They keep for 2 years after manufacture, between 5 and 30 °C, away from light and frost. Because the doses differ, each bottle covers a different volume. You can make up 250 litres of solution for the humic acid at 4 ml per litre, 500 litres for the fulvic acid at 2 ml per litre, and 200 litres for the seaweed extract at 5 ml per litre. The seaweed extract, used up to flowering and at the highest dose, is therefore the first to run out.
Take a 50-litre reservoir that is refreshed every week during peak growth. You add 100 ml of fulvic acid and 250 ml of seaweed extract, diluting each product separately in water before mixing. At this rate, the bottle of seaweed extract lasts 4 weeks and the fulvic acid one lasts 10 weeks. In soil, where humic acid is only needed once a month, its bottle covers a full season on a family vegetable patch watered with a watering can.
